This was my first visit. I ordered the good-value ¥1200 rice bowl set. It was supposed to come with a regular tendon and mini zaru soba, but even the tendon was half-sized with an extremely small amount of rice! Unfortunately, it was a little insufficient for an adult man. At other restaurants, one item is regular-sized and the other half-sized, but here even the main tendon is served on a small flat plate rather than in a bowl. The zaru soba also comes without nori, and I'm not sure whether its dipping sauce differs from mori soba.

This soba restaurant is about a 10-minute walk from Akihabara Station, just off Showa-dori. We visited as a group of 10 during year-end party season. The food covered a wide range, centered on a mushroom hot pot, with assorted sashimi, potato salad, satsuma-age, chicken karaage, and more. Everything was delicious. With the all-you-can-drink option, we enjoyed draft beer, chilled Takashimizu sake, and soba shochu mixed with soba cooking water. We finished with mori soba and went our separate ways. Thank you for the meal!

【First comment, February 2024】 With work wearing away at my soul, I came to 『更科前田屋』. Apparently this place is known for its generous portions. I ordered the set of「豚キム丼」and 「たぬきそば 大」. You can almost hear someone saying, “This is all you need.” lol The soba is slightly thick, and the clear broth seems to emphasize dashi rather than relying on soy sauce, lol. Elegant, clean, and refreshing, it's also nice to enjoy it like a soup. 豚キム丼 might be one of those dishes that sounds familiar but you haven't actually seen. As it looks, it's pork kimchi bound with egg, and the egg mellows out the kimchi, making it really easy to eat! There are plenty of set options, and the portions were every bit as generous as rumored— no wonder it's popular with hungry office workers! Being a soba shop may also be part of its broad appeal.

I'd heard this place was popular, so I came early! Since a large portion is free, I went for the katsudon set with tanuki soba... Far more filling than it looks. I was stuffed...

The winter-only oyster miso-simmered udon set is delicious and recommended. At night, there are plenty of izakaya dishes, and parties are often held here. It's also well loved by people working at nearby companies and others.
