Iconic 19th-century restaurant serving meat, seafood & vegetables delicately fried & battered.

A long-established traditional restaurant that carries on tempura, the taste of the common people of Edo, to the present day. When sightseeing in Asakusa or visiting Kannon-sama to pray, please stop by 三定 (Sansada) for a meal. Characteristics of Edomae tempura: Sansada's tempura is what is known as Edomae tempura. It is said that the tempura first sold by our founder Sadakichi — small fish and the like caught in the waters near Edo, coated in batter, fried in sesame oil, and sold from a street stall — was very popular with the people of the time. Today, we too strive to let you enjoy tempura rich in the flavor of sesame oil. Edomae tempura made with sesame oil has a brownish batter. Our tempura, made by frying fresh ingredients in our own original sesame oil, has a rich aroma and a light, pleasant bite.…

Sansada is one of those restaurants that feels like stepping back in time. It’s a legendary soba restaurant with a history of more than 100 years, and you can definitely feel its traditional atmosphere the moment you walk in. The soba was delicious, simple, authentic, and exactly what you would expect from a restaurant that has been serving customers for generations. One thing that made me smile was the furniture. Since this is such an old restaurant, the tables and chairs are genuinely small, just like they were a century ago. If you’re a big person, you might find it a little challenging to sit comfortably! 😂 It also made me wonder if people in Japan 100 years ago were generally smaller than they are today. If that’s the case, the furniture has certainly stayed true to history! Other than that, everything was great. The service was good, the food was authentic, and the restaurant has a unique charm that modern places simply can’t replicate. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience. If you’re looking for authentic soba with a touch of history, Sansada is definitely worth a visit.

This tempura place is not like the standard tempura you would find at your average restaurant. They make the tempura in the same style as their original 1830s recipie: thicker batter and doused with sauce. If you love tempura, this is a bit of an anthropological study on the evolution of the dish. I am deducting 1 star because the sashimi quality wasnt very good. Our maguro had no flavor. Service was quick and great. Very friendly staff of old grannies.

Had a really nice meal at San-Sada Asakusa. We ordered the Jo tendon, Nami tendon, and Jo tempura—everything tasted great. The staff were very kind and took the time to explain the difference between tendon and tempura, mentioning that tendon is softer and not as crispy because of the sauce, which we appreciated. It was also interesting to learn that the shop dates back to the 19th century and is now run by the 7th generation, which adds a special touch to the experience. Portions were quite big for us, but overall it was a really enjoyable meal.

I visited this amazing spot during a business trip in December 2018, and the food was spectacular. Every dish was packed with rich, authentic flavors and cooked to perfection. The welcoming staff made it an unforgettable dining experience that I still highly recommend.

Located just beside Sensoji. Very old school restaurant. Tatami floors, low chairs. Very busy. Food was good and the portions huge. Their tempura style is the soft batter type. This is clearly stated in the menu. Personally prefer the crispy type.
