Awesome hole-in-the-wall mazesoba restaurant near Ueno Station. It’s all bar seating with only 7 seats. Order from the machine which only accepts cash with bills no higher than 1000yen. Give the tickets to the chefs behind the counter and they’ll deliver perfect bowls of mazesoba to you in a few minutes! Pitchers of iced drinking water are in front of every seat at the bar. Mix all the ingredients together in the bowl and start eating, then try adding vinegar to add a layer of tang to the dish. Bouncy noodles in a savory, mildly spicy, and tangy sauce…delicious! Once you’ve eaten all the noodles, ask for a scoop of rice and then mix that with the remaining ingredients in your bowl and finish it off! After you’re done, remember to place all your dishes up on the counter in front of you for them to clean up. It’s a must visit!

Nice little shop of the great Menya Kokoro mazesoba chain of which you can find many more shops spread across the Tokyo area. This one is small and seats 8-10 people depending on their size :-) - You purchase a ticket from the vending machine (cash only) and seat yourself. The food is beyond good it is great! If you want really tasty soup less Ramen with lots of flavors and nice garlic punch you want to take look at this restaurant.

I was flabbergasted at the first mouthful. It was delicious and multi layered flavourful! I just couldn’t stop eating though a bigger portion would be more welcome. I’m so coming back a few more times before my trip home.

Small restaurant only 7 seat. The ramen is a Taiwan style. Lots of toppings and mixing it together, the tastes is wonderful and so yummy. Free rice is available.

one of our favourite meals of the whole trip to Japan, if not our absolute favourite! I highly recommend it
