ラーメン豚山Pork Ramen Butayama Ueno
Intimate ramen restaurant furnishing informal fare amid unpretentious surroundings.
Ramen Butayama Ueno branch is a 'gattsuri' (hearty) ramen specialty shop featuring extra-thick noodles and rich soup. A 2-minute walk from Exit A1 of Ueno-hirokoji Station on the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line, a 3-minute walk from the South Exit of Okachimachi Station on the JR Yamanote/Keihin-Tohoku Line, and easily accessible from the Ueno Ameyoko Shopping Street, it is a recommended spot for lunch or dinner. The soup, slowly simmered with large amounts of pork, backbone, leg bone, and pork fat, has a rich, addictive flavor layered through the 'yobimodoshi' method. It pairs perfectly with the extra-thick noodles with a 'washi-washi' texture made using high-protein flour (ocean). A bowl topped with slowly simmered, melt-in-your-mouth char siu and plenty of vegetables is very filling.

Visited on May 22nd 2026. Arrived 12:00pm slight wait in line. Ordered large size 1000 yen that comes with 2 Chasu slices and I ordered an extra egg. Added ninniku mashi mashi (extra extra garlic). Be sure to try to follow the ordering rules listed on the table for smooth ordering. I was a bit nervous since this is my first time at a proper Jiro-style ramen place, but nothing a little research on proper etiquette couldn’t solve. It’s a very heavy and salty bowl of ramen, but very filling and cheap. Great for the occasional indulgence. The large portion is definitely big enough for a heavy eater. I actually considered adding extra yasai, but I’m glad I didn’t as the heap of veggies they served in the bowl was good enough. If this is your first time, definitely follow their recommended size on the English menu.
View on GoogleHuge portion of ramen for a cheap price!🍜🤤 Queued for 40 minutes on Saturday night, but worth it! The thick, flat noodles were like ban mian, the chashu was melt-in-your-mouth, and the veggies were perfectly seasoned. Soup was a bit salty though! 🧂 Ordering might be tricky for foreigners, so here's how: 1. Ticket machine (English option available!) - choose noodle size (mini 125g/regular 250g), broth(normal or misu), chashu quantity(2, 5 or 8), & toppings(e.g. leek). 2. Tell the waitress your noodle firmness, garlic/oil level, veggie amount (default 300g, I got 450g!), and spiciness preference. 🔥 3. Grab drinks and wait! 🥤 4. Enjoy! 😋 Fun fact: buta means pork and yama means mountain. Dining here means you get a mountain of pork! #Ramen #Food #Japan #Noodles #SaturdayNight #Foodie #Dinner #CheapEats
View on GoogleEating at Ramen Butayama is not for the faint of heart and stomach. Order from the vending machine on the left when you step in - there are English options. Prices are cheap and you get a stack of beansprouts and veggies. Small is large and large is massive. Props to the master and staff who were kind to us and asked in English about whether wanted garlic. Noodles are thick and filling. Meat is fat and just delicious. This is an old-school ramen place in Tokyo.
View on GoogleThe place is a little small but the portion of the ramen is gigantic. I weigh 87 kgs and I can't finish it. The taste is superb, creamy and very thick. Even the noodle already has its own subtle flavor. The Chasiu is huge as well. Very recommended.
View on GooglePassing by and entered in. Ramen was unique and very tasty, generous size of yasai, special cooked pork belly was good as well. The only mystery was the seating system: queue was long for sure, but they could have let customer seat quicker but empty seat was empty for no reason… not sure why.
