*** Cozy French restaurant in Ueno *** A small restaurant which serves good French dishes and quality wine. The restaurant recommends Maison Lou Dumont in Bourgogne by Mr Koji Nakada who used to work this restaurant. However the restaurant has a great wine list besides that. Of course the dishes are also nice but very reasonable.

I had lunch here. It was a cold, rainy day, but the restaurant had a warm atmosphere. The food seemed carefully prepared, and I could sense the care put into the plates and cutlery as well. The sauce on the meat main course was delicious.

An unpretentious, old-fashioned French restaurant. It is small and set in a standalone house, with attentive service, so it is also good for young children’s first French dining experience. They are thorough, warming dishes for hot food and chilling them for cold food. French cuisine you cannot eat at home! Many customers are neighbors or people from the arts university. The duck is slightly salty. I recommend the meat dishes.

A bistro in the old-town area of 上野; it may actually be closer to access from 日暮里 or 鶯谷. Normally only the 1st floor is open, and apparently the 2nd floor is opened when a party booking comes in. Lunch hours are from noon to 2 p.m. Note that dinner currently starts at 17:30. It is rarely full at lunchtime, but a full house is not unusual at dinner, so making a reservation just in case is wise. As the name bistro suggests, it is recommended for anyone wanting reasonably priced French cuisine, with 2 main-course choices: meat or fish. Incidentally, there are more meat options at dinner, so those wanting to enjoy a wider range of dishes should return for dinner. The photo shows the dinner dish of black sea bream baked in a parcel, but all the fish dishes use herbs properly to remove any fishy smell. The meat dishes are also easy to cut with the knives provided. Since it is run by an elderly couple, service like that at a restaurant in a famous hotel is difficult in practice, but the distinctive atmosphere and pace give it great character, attracting many repeat customers. What you must not misunderstand is that this is a “bistro,” a place to enjoy “homestyle” French cuisine. I really hope they keep operating while preserving this atmosphere and flavor.

A relaxing French restaurant with a hideaway feel. The variety and quality of the wines are wonderful. 仲田 of ルーデュモン, the most successful in ブルゴーニュ, used to work here, so a special cuvée from ルーデュモン is the house wine, and there is also an extensive selection of other ブルゴーニュ wines. Scheduled to reopen after renovation on 2017年8月23日. Apparently the 1st floor will become the main area, so the atmosphere may change. The owner and his wife are always kind and approachable, making this a relaxing place.
