This is definitely one of the older and more charming restaurants in the area. Although there were empty tables, guests are asked to line up outside because their kitchen cant handle all the customers. Once a table has been served all their the food, more customers are allowed in. The chairs and table were unusually low to the ground but still comfortable. The food tasted pretty good.

Amazing Napolitan pasta! Stopped by Coffee Ōjō and tried their famous Napolitan and toast. The pasta was incredibly delicious—perfectly cooked with a rich, comforting flavor that hit the spot. The toast was a great accompaniment too. The shop has a wonderful, retro retro vibe with great hospitality. A perfect spot for lunch or a coffee break in Ueno!

Just steps from the lively Ameyoko market, Kohi Ojo (Coffee Oujou) has been serving loyal regulars since 1975. The interior is a time capsule of Showa-era European style — a grand chandelier, upholstered gobelin sofas, and marble tabletops — now in the hands of its third-generation owner. The set meal of Napolitan pasta and coffee (¥1,500) is a solid choice. The Napolitan is hearty and well-loaded with mushrooms, bell peppers, and bacon, while the coffee — roasted in-house — is clean and easy to drink. The chocolate parfait and cream soda are equally popular, and it's easy to find yourself already planning your next order before you've finished. A queue forms even on weekdays, so plan to arrive with some extra time. The restaurant is entirely non-smoking, seating is limited to 90 minutes, and payment is by cash or PayPay only. A quiet reminder that some things, when they're worth keeping, simply endure.

An old fashion coffee house with the traditional japanese extra thick toast. I like it that it is simple, bringing back old memory feel. I like the generous butter on top. I will never have enough of butter on my toast.

I went here is morning around 10AM and the waitress in eyeglasses who served me was very accommodating. She greeted me sincerely with a smile and told me I can choose my own seat. I ordered a morning set toast with Iced Coffee and I was extremely surprised that the store included a bottle of alcohol gel for me to use! It’s very hygienic and considerate for them to include this very essential thing to strive for cleanliness! Most restaurants and cafés don’t think thought of this idea. The only thing I wish they could add would be an English menu just in case a foreign tourists will visit the coffee shop. I know going to shops like this might not be very famous among foreign tourists yet but just in case such menu might be a good help. Secondly, I wanted to have a second helping of Iced Coffee but it’s way too expensive which is almost the same price as a morning set. I just wish that they could have made it cheaper for customers who ordered and wanted to add more drinks after the first order. So, I ended up ordering another morning set which is cheaper than a drink refills. I didn’t regret it, though! The toast was amazing! :-) Overall, the staff were great but in terms of second drink pricing, it’s a little expensive. The second staff who was not wearing eyeglasses was also kind and cheerful. Their washroom and toilet was also spic-and-span! Going to retro cafés gave me anxiety of using the toilet due to bad experience but this café’s toilet somehow change my perception that not all retro cafés have less-maintained toilets. Smoking is not allowed inside the coffee shop but customers are free to smoke outside the shop’s ash tray. The shop is located near JR Ueno And few minutes walk from JR Keisei Ueno.
