岡もとNiku Meshi Okamoto Okachimachi Branch
Not katsudon, not gyudon, not oyakodon. A new kind of meat bowl—that's nikumeshi. 「肉めし 岡もと」 is a nikumeshi specialty shop that evolved 岡むら屋's concept of “market-style rice bowls made by a stubborn old man.” With a simple exterior evoking Japanese calm, the seating is mainly at the counter. Even solo diners can casually and quickly fill up on nikumeshi. 「肉めし 岡もと」 is particular about 3 things. First, the star: meat and tofu carefully simmered until tender in a special warishita with a secret kaeshi. Second, the daikon and simmered egg, excellent supporting players to the star, are slowly simmered. Third, the special spicy sauce on the table and chopped…

I'm not entirely sure what distinguishes gyūdon (beef bowl) from nikumeshi (beef rice), but here, the nikumeshi appears to be beef and tofu simmered in a rich, dark broth. It's quite soupy and very juicy. The shop is crowded, with counter seating only. Most of the staff are not Japanese. Given its proximity to Ueno, I got the impression that many of the customers were non-Japanese tourists.
View on GoogleTried their Large braised meat bowl. The portion is huge. I liked their braised meat braised daikon and braised egg that comes with the large. Ordered a separate Tartar sauce like Negi at the side. It is delicious and goes well with the braised meat bowl. It is very similar concept to places like Yoshinoya, Sukiya and Matsuya except this is selling braised meat instead. The price here is inexpensive as well. Restaurant is a bit small so it can be hard for big groups to be seated together.
View on GoogleBeen eating a lot of Japanese food over the 3 weeks and decided to give this braised pork place a go. Food was yummy, and the serving were reasonable. The rice and pork dish was great, but the noodles dish was just so-so as the sauce wasnt to my liking.
View on GoogleI was just randomly looking for a restaurant around Okachimachi Station and found this place. It was even more delicious than I expected ! The portions were quite reasonable. I ordered extra egg soup, and it paired perfectly with the rice bowl. 👍🏻
View on GoogleNikumeah Okamoto created a wonderfully comforting dish of braised chopped pork over fluffy white rice, topped with konjak, tofu, and turnips—all simmered in a perfectly balanced meat sauce that wasn’t overly salty. The rice soaked up the rich, savory flavors, with the pork’s natural fat adding an appetizing sheen and helping retain warmth, making each bite especially satisfying after a long day. The konjak, a plant-based, low-carb ingredient with a firm, bouncy texture, added a unique satisfaction to the dish. The turnips absorbed the sauce beautifully, becoming tender and slightly sweet. This dish has truly become my favorite! 好吃的日式魯肉飯。
