I finally visited the legendary Namiki Yabusoba in Asakusa and it completely lived up to the hype. The handmade soba noodles were perfectly firm with that deep, earthy buckwheat flavor. Dipped in their rich, savory sauce, each bite was an absolute delight—balanced, refined, and incredibly satisfying. What made it special was the traditional finish: adding the soba-yu (cooking water) to the remaining sauce at the end. The warm, slightly sweet broth it created was pure comfort and a beautiful way to savor every last drop. A timeless Asakusa gem. Must-try for any soba lover!
View on GoogleSolid shop serving soba since 1913. We walked in on a weekday around 12:45pm with no wait. SERVICE: 5 Very kind and polite. It was a hot day, and the staff anticipated our needs like clockwork. FOOD: 4 Simple is good. Tenzaru ¥2,200 came with four shrimp tempura and one shishito pepper. Soba was on point with a smooth consistency and light bite. Sobatsuyu is a bit on the darker, saltier side. Pour sobayu into the sobatsuyu for a nice hot soup at the end. ATMOSPHERE: 4 Simple interior with some artwork on the walls. ばそ is Soba spelled backwards. :-) I would return. Service is very gentle.
View on GoogleWe had an early dinner at this restaurant. It's interesting that the kitchen staff look like they have decades of experience. The soba was fresh and delicious, though serving could have been bigger. We had a good meal here.
View on GoogleNamiki Yabusoba @ Asakusa Very popular soba restaurant in Asakusa. Lunch time is very crowded, so it is easier to get in after 3:00 p.m. English is available. There are both tatami room and table seating, and those who have difficulty with Japanese-style tatami room will be guided to table seating. ◎Yaki Nori Nori is heated in an aromatic furnace to increase its aroma and taste. ◎Tempura The skill of the chef in preparing and deep frying the shiba prawns. The tempura is also first-rate. The way of frying is exquisite. Zaru Soba The soup for the soba noodles is dry, so it is best to soak about 1/4 of it in the soup and slurp it up. The only problem is that the soba is so flavorful that you finish it in a flash.
