A Kagawa Prefecture-born "udon chain" that opened in 2014. For me, who's been traveling by car for over a decade, the "Ueno Station concourse store" was out of reach. The Ueno Station concourse is hard to explain. It spans the first to third floors—is it fair to call this the second floor? It's been renovated and is now "clean," but the building itself dates back to "Showa 1932" (1932). Consequently, parts of the interior are only 175cm tall, making it a place where "tall people" need to be careful. Similar facilities exist around Shimbashi. Now, this day was also a "71-year-old part-timer's workday." The closest station to my workplace is Hamamatsucho Station, but for a while, I'm doing a "station-by-station exploration." However, I haven't bought a commuter pass yet, so I'm not making any "intermediate stops." I'm just checking out eateries within the station complex. It's a Sanuki udon shop, but it's definitely "Tokyo-style." I don't see any squid tempura, so I hesitate to go in. Peeking inside, it looks "Marugame-style." Well then, I decided to go in and see. Tempura was lined up. Up front was a "big eggplant tempura," and above that, "chicken tempura?" Next to it, a "shiitake mushroom tempura about 8cm long"!! I chose it without hesitation. I debated, but ended up with my usual "kake nabe" with extra wakame seaweed. Total: 810 yen. I skipped the "age-tama" (fried tempura bits), ・Ginger ・Sesame seeds ・Shichimi pepper and headed to the counter seat. Maybe because of the wakame, the broth was lukewarm. Maybe because of the generous ginger, the "dashi flavor" felt weak. Did they lean toward Kanto style?? The broth was on the thick side. The udon noodles were the springy type. Honestly, it was just plain tasty. Nothing particularly thrilling. Seems they have a branch in Hamamatsucho too. Next time, I'll try other udon there!

BEST CURRY UDONNNN EVER!!!!! It is by the Central Gate, take a left at the gates and go up the stairs and it's on your right. It's open for breakfast, which is great for early risers! It's so sweet, no taste of fish, perfect amount of curry, chewy noodles and a heaping amount of beef for 1000 yen. It's a great value! Various tempura + croquettes are available, too. Grab a tray, place your order, chef hands you a bowl, enjoy.

Need to be inside the JR Ueno station to get here. 150 yen admission if you don’t need your take train before or after. You add different tempura to the selected udon. I have been looking for this kind of udon for the past week and finally found this the day before leaving Tokyo. You eat by bench looking to the wall or there is 3 two seats tables.

One of the best Udon resto in Ueno, we came here again and again during our holiday trip. The udon noodle is very delicious and texture is excellent. Cosy little place with friendly service.

Not easy to find, you need to purchase a ticket (Y150) to enter the station to access it. From the Art Museum, you need to enter, go up a level, then down and across a station platform, then up again. It was very confusing to find. But extremely efficient and quick service once inside. A good, affordable meal on the go. It's not intended as a place for a long stay. Tempura was cold. Kitsune udon was filling.
