秋月庵, a soba shop in 稲荷町. It's an aging establishment run by an elderly man on his own. Taking orders and everything else happens at a relaxed pace, but perhaps because many visitors are regulars, they seem to understand and wait without rushing him. I ordered tenzaru soba, but before my meal arrived, he brought out aburaage simmered in a sweet-savory sauce and kamaboko. I was hungry and tucked in, and he gave me extra servings 2 times. Incredible service. The soba and tempura aren't exactly outstanding, but the owner's kindness left me feeling warm inside.

The place has a Showa atmosphere, and I think he used to run it with his mother. My workplace was nearby 18 years ago, so I often ate here. This was my first visit in 4 years. The best is the large green onion soba. Along with tenkasu, it comes with aburaage and kamaboko. The noodles are on the thin side, the kind of soba you feel you could eat bowl after bowl of. I'd like to go again!

The curry was retort-pouch curry served on a plate covered in plastic wrap. To cut down on washing up❓ The soba was limp with no chew, and the dipping broth had little dashi flavor. The soba cooking water was just plain lukewarm water‼️😭

An old-fashioned soba shop, with a menu full of character and an owner's smile that put me at ease. The generous hospitality was much appreciated.
