Reserved a couple weeks in advance online. Service was good. Their house signature egg sandwich was sold out by 10am so I ordered the second egg sandwich which was delicious. Coffee pudding was also good. I wish the Russian coffee had a more distinct espresso flavor.
View on GoogleKayaba Coffee is a lovely corner spot with a vintage feel, featuring traditional tatami seating on the top floor and relaxing jazz music in the background. It’s very popular with tourists, yet the staff remain incredibly accommodating to walk-ins, friendly, and fluent in English. We had the Hashed Beef - savoury and rich, like a beef stroganoff without the sour cream (you can also get it with the soft omelette) , An (Red Bean Paste) Butter Toast as well as an Egg Sandwich. All were simple, fresh, and lovely, and includes a small miso soup and salad. Service was exceptionally speedy despite a near full house. Price was around 10,000 yen for four mains and four non-alcoholic drinks.
View on GoogleA lovely little coffee shop ☕️ I highly recommend making a reservation in advance, as it’s often fully booked. The staff were very kind and welcoming. Both the coffee and toast were excellent. Definitely worth a visit, and I’d love to come back again!
View on GoogleThis kissaten (喫茶店) was restored with care by the community to keep its retro character, and it shows. It feels old-fashioned in a good way. It fits into the overall vibe of the historic Yanaka neighborhood very well. We went without a reservation and we didn't have to wait at all, but we were there on a weekday in January, so it wasn't crowded. Most of the drinks and dishes cost from 600 to 900 yen, with choices like affogato, coffee float, melon soda, and egg toast. The egg toast breakfast came with sides of a salad and miso soup, so it was more filling than expected. They have both English and Japanese menus, so it isn't complicated to order. Please note that if you agree to be seated upstairs, you will be seated on the floor with a cushion at a low table, so if you have mobility issues you probably should get a reservation ahead of time so you can be seated at booth downstairs.
View on GoogleTLDR; one of the best egg sandwiches I’ve had in Japan We had reservations for a morning slot because I’d heard how crazy the lines get - I have to say, getting the reservations was probably the hardest part because the dates that they release slots aren’t clearly communicated and they seem to change? Overall, the food here is lovely - the coffee was super smooth and silky, the egg sandwich was so delicious and had perfect flavours, as was the veg sandwich. The kewpie mayo really is a game changer. We chose the tatami seating which was a really good choice too!
