At the southern foot of Shizugatake, descendants of Fujiwara no Fuhito who took the surname Fujita built a temple. Today, 9 of the 10 households in the Nishikuroda settlement bear the Fujita name. Viewing the imo Kannon (potato Kannon) of Annenji ( ✋˘ ˘👌 ) Namu. #仏像 #butsuzo Left, Bishamonten. Right, Dainichi Nyorai. So it's said. Lined up like this, they have the air of the married couple Bishamonten and Kichijoten. Whether or not it's actually Bishamonten, the powerful thighs clearly mark it as a deva (Tenbu) figure. Meanwhile, Dainichi Nyorai, lined up like this, gives off a feminine air, and its flat, straight-lined body evokes the image of someone in a kimono. Both Buddhas were once said to have been playmates for children in the Yogo River, adults had a custom of washing them like potatoes, and because of their worn surfaces, they came to be worshipped as substitute Kannon (migawari Kannon) with miraculous powers against skin diseases.
View on GoogleThe Thousand-Armed Thousand-Legged Kannon standing statue — the only one in Japan — from Shomyoji in Nagahama City, Shiga Prefecture, is currently on display. It's a rare chance, since you usually can't see it even at Shomyoji. Apparently the temples in Nagahama City have no resident priests and are managed by local residents. Amazing. Do take this opportunity to visit.
View on GoogleThe Buddhist statue featured on TV Asahi's "Sandwichman & Ashida Mana no Hakase-chan," the Thousand-Armed Thousand-Legged Kannon of Shomyoji, is on public display until 2020/3/15. Photography is OK as long as you follow the rules. The statue gets ☆5, but the female attendant kept nagging about every little thing, so ☆4.
View on GoogleA Kannon statue renowned for its miraculous powers is on display. A sacred atmosphere fills the quiet space. Right now, as part of the opening commemoration event, you can get a clear file.
View on GoogleIt's across from Keisei Ueno Station. Apparently the Kannon statue changes every month. If you have a little time, why not let the Kannon soothe you? (^o^). It's a smallish space, so there are no restrooms.
