This hidden gem caught our eye while we were going to grab some food, so we planned to go afterwards and we are really glad that we did. This is an amazing opportunity to experience a real traditional maid Cafe like they existed in the beginning of this century. Apparently this is one of the first maid cafes there was in Japan and it also feels like that. I really recommend coming here if you want an authentic experience. Thank you

The chef was amazing very kind and joyful always laughing. The food was delicious exactly what you need after a long day of travel. If I’m ever in Osaka again I will be coming back. I highly recommend.

I went right at lunchtime on Valentine's Day. I received a cute little bonus and ordered gâteau au chocolat and oolong tea. The cake set was 1000円. These days, a cake alone costing over 1000円 is nothing unusual at Akihabara maid cafes, and sets with a drink costing 1500円 or more are commonplace. It's understandable in the current climate, but I think ひよこ家 really has very fair prices. The gâteau au chocolat was crisp, and the cream served alongside it was sweet and delicious too. The place only holds around 5 people, but it feels like being in a secret hideout. Somehow, it's like visiting a friend's room rather than being in a coffee shop. More like, “I just dropped by to hang out.” I visited once back when the shop was still near Akihabara's Showa-dori exit, and my impression is that it has changed quite a lot. I hope it keeps going for a long time. There are both commercial magazines and doujinshi inside. I'd like to read them sometime. Given the location, getting there by subway or JR is straightforward, but finding parking might be difficult if you drive.

A few things to know: it's tiny (we're talking 4~5 seats), and this restaurant has quite a history. It's Japan's second maid café, founded in 2001 in Akihabara! (They've had to move from there since) The two maids (who are the maids from back then) are really nice and try to communicate well despite the language barrier. The food is very good. Above all, the setting is incredible, full of shops that reference good maid cafés, old magazines, manga, etc... Honestly, go there, it's unusual, but give it a try!
