The best about this place was the service. Waiters and waitresses are friendly. Spaghetti not bad but not the best I had in Japan. Atmosphere is very old fashioned Japanese in 80s or 90s. Perfect for nostalgia lovers. However, as a non smoker, it was not too enjoyable to have second hand smoke around while eating. Please consider visiting if you also don’t like cigarette smoke.

Oct 16, 2025 A very Showa-era retro atmosphere with glistening lights all around the store. Every corner was so photogenic. Loved the old school air, just like back in 1977 when the cafe was established. City pop music filled the air. Sat by the window where I could see the eateries and the streets below. Cake set was ¥1,300 including a coffee or tea with the cake alone being ¥1,000. I liked the nutty flavor of the coffee. Strawberry milk tea cake and chocolate cake tasted normal as expected in a retro cafe but nothing special. Smoking allowed everywhere in the store and cash only. Felt like a place where middle aged men would hang out. Kinda amusingly in contrast to the luxurious vibe. No wait at 8:30pm on a Thursday night.

Finally, I found a smoking area after walking so far.. ha.. ha.. ha.. Smoking is allowed here. Nice place, near Ueno Station and Ameyoko Street. A bit pricey but worth it for the location, service, and taste of the food. Payment: CASH ONLY

This café is so dreamy, it feels like stepping back into Tokyo in the 70s or 80s. The environment is comfortable and you can even smoke, creating a relaxing atmosphere. It's definitely the top choice for coffee and desserts in Ueno.

First day in Japan, and coffee was definitely needed. This place is great - the atmosphere is amazing, and the coffee is very good - I had both hot and ice cafe latte, which were strong, flavourful, and exactly what I needed. There was a brief wait to be seated, and the staff went out of their way to speak English to me. Definitely recommend - it does allow smoking, but the air isn't heavy with cigarette smoke, and the coffee and atmosphere are well worth it. Definitely coming back again during my stay in Ueno. Highly recommended
