あたりや食堂Atariya Shokudō
Tiny shop dishing up chicken or spicy noodles, plus gyoza dumplings, in a simple setup.
Atariya Shokudo is a diner that my grandfather started by pulling a food cart in Miyakonojo City, Miyazaki Prefecture, shortly after the war in 1948 (Showa 23). Using Kyushu's specialty ingredients and a body-friendly soy sauce base carefully made under the tropical sun of Miyazaki, we serve our original noodle dish, [Rairai-men]. For 79 years since our founding, we have been working hard every day so that many people can taste this flavor that our family has protected. We have been operating at two locations, the main store in Miyakonojo City, Miyazaki Prefecture, and the Akihabara store in Kanda, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, but we are now closing the Akihabara store and moving to Yanaka, Taito-ku as [Atariya Shokudo Yanaka Branch]. It will open on Monday, July 12, 2021, so...

We visited the restaurant for dinner on a weekday at around 6pm and had the whole place to ourselves. The ramen was delicious and portions were filling. English menu is available and the staff is very helpful.
View on GoogleWanted to like this place. Ramen was decent. Tried to order the gyoza with my ramen but was told, “we don’t serve gyoza when it’s busy”, which makes no sense to me. Ramen and Gyoza are almost obligatory food partners. And it’s listed on the menu, but they just didn’t feel like serving it? Left kinda hungry. Worst part was the passive aggressive attitude of (likely) the owner, and how he treats his help person/ staff. In a country where finding good, honest employees is increasingly difficult to find, that kind of attitude and treatment shouldn’t be tolerated. Plenty of better ramen elsewhere!
View on GoogleDelicious ramen including the famous Rai ramen. The gyoza are also outstanding. Lunch and dinner are available. It has a cozy friendly vibe.
View on GoogleWe had 2 variations of ramen and also gyoza (one variety), all delicious. The pork slices on the ramen were especially tasty, Miyazaki style. We also gad a nice chat with the owner. As others mentioned, his grandfather started the original location. He and his brother each are the chefs and managers at the two locations including the one in Tokyo. Not a place to linger. Order, eat yummy ramen, and be on the way. Cash or credit cards. Thanks!
View on GoogleWe ordered 3 out of the four meals on the menu with photos. All three were awesome. The guys running the shop are very friendly and nice. Atmospher is cosey and quaint. If you're into Japanese street food, I definitely recommend this place.
