Really nice place to visit with a lot of art (sometimes subtle) placed everywhere in the area. I would strongly recommend visiting the MangaPark after.
View on GoogleA few minutes' walk from the north exit of Tachikawa Station, objects that make you wonder "what is this?" suddenly appear between buildings or at the edge of the sidewalk — that's Faret Tachikawa. As many as 109 public artworks by 92 artists from 36 countries are scattered throughout the area, giving the strong impression that the whole district has been turned into an "open-air art museum." Things that normally serve as part of the city's infrastructure or decoration, such as "vents," "benches," "bollards," "walls," and "plantings," also work as art.
View on Google(First visit Feb. 2026) Since it's a pilgrimage spot for "A Certain Scientific Railgun," I walked through after a live concert. I was able to feel the atmosphere.
View on GoogleApparently "Fare" means to create or produce in Italian, and with the T from Tachikawa added, it's called "FARET" (Faret Tachikawa)! The art-based town planning felt fresh! It was interesting that the artworks aren't just placed there, but properly function as streetlights, bollards, and so on! They seem to hold a photo contest too, and compared with other towns, I thought it's practical art!
View on GoogleA spot a few minutes' walk from the north exit of Tachikawa Station where the whole area is like an art museum. Distinctive objects and sculptures are dotted between buildings, in plazas, and even under the monorail viaduct, so just walking around is fun. The passage under the viaduct feels open, and there are shops too, so I think you can enjoy shopping as well.
