Came here for a late breakfast on a walk through Ryogoku. Ordered the miso saba set with no rice (gohan nashi) and they were totally fine with it. Got the miso simmered mackerel with four home-style sides: hijiki seaweed, simmered daikon and koyadofu, pickled eggplant with sesame, and a beansprout salad with bonito. Miso soup on the side. Everything was already perfectly seasoned, didn’t need to touch the soy sauce. The miso saba was rich and sweet, cooked the way someone’s grandmother would do it. The hijiki was honestly the standout, could eat a whole bowl of that stuff. This is real Japanese home cooking, not a tourist spot. The old lady running the place is the heart of it. She gave me an origami shuriken on the way out and said it was special for me. That kind of warmth is hard to find. Two minutes from my hotel, already planning to come back before I leave Tokyo. If you’re staying near Ryogoku and want a proper, affordable, no-frills Japanese meal, this is the one.
View on GoogleMy new favourite place for a cheap and reliable lunch. There’s a self serve counter you can pick from and you can choose between a small and large rice free of charge. My set meal came to 750¥ and my miso mackerel was one of the best I’ve ever had. I was also gifted the cutest origami on the way out! Such an amazing place
View on GoogleOne of the most memorable meals in Japan❤️ if you want to know, what would be like eating at Japanese home, come here. It tasted like most authentic homemade meal. It is such a heartwarming experience ❤️
View on GoogleThis is one of those places that makes you fall in love with Japan. A small and cozy restaurant where simple ingredients come together to create perfectly balanced flavors. It feels like a home-cooked meal that never goes wrong. What touched me even more was the kindness of the owner, who gave me a few pieces of origami. Experiencing such warmth in a foreign country is truly unforgettable. ❤️
View on GoogleAmazing place for a cheap, tasty and filling meal. I had grilled fish with miso and some sides. The owner helped me out with how to order and was extremely friendly despite me being an idiot. His wife also made me some origami and taught me how to make a samurai helmet out of newspaper as well as some other origami that she folded while I was eating. The park behind their place is also extremely beautiful and a nice place to walk off the delicious authentic meal you will have at this place.
