I visited "Gentamaru," located just a short walk from the JR Ryogoku Station East Exit, for lunch. I ordered the "Komachi" set, which is their most basic option. The sushi is prepared by a chef right in front of you. The toppings were sliced thick, and each piece was quite filling. Given the price, the quality and portion were highly satisfying. The miso soup that comes with the set also served as a nice palate cleanser. It is a budget-friendly restaurant where you can casually enjoy good quality sushi near the station.

Great sushi, kind owners, wonderful atmosphere. The unagi and mackerel were especially good, and I also enjoyed the crab! It's also so close to the train station, but the vibe and food were the real highlights. ごちそうさまでした!

Found this place on accident after Red Bull BC One. I cannot begin to describe how great this place is. English menu is available, and the staff are great to foreigners as long as you aren’t rude, and have a sense of humor. The fish is so fresh and so tasty here, but the real star of the show is the sushi rice. It is so seasoned and so delicious, I stopped ordering pieces of sushi and started ordering rice bowls because it was so good. This is the type of place that just messes up eating sushi back in the states for me. I can never eat sushi back home because I’ll always compare it to Gentamaru.

Absolutely the best! The only establishment we returned to 4 times during our Japan trip! Perfect service and the best sushi we have ever eaten in our whole lives :D
