Okonomiyaki restaurant

'Okonomiyaki Monja Donguri,' located in the old downtown of Ryogoku, is a monjayaki and okonomiyaki restaurant long loved by locals. As a long-established teppanyaki restaurant where you can enjoy a fun meal gathered around the griddle while experiencing Tokyo's shitamachi (old downtown) culture, we welcome many guests. Our monjayaki stays true to the traditional taste, and we also offer plenty of teppan dishes such as seafood butter-yaki. Each table has its own griddle, and since it's a hands-on style where you cook for yourself, it's popular with first-timers and tourists too. It's easily accessible from Tokyo sightseeing areas such as Asakusa, Skytree, and Kinshicho, and you can enjoy 'local Tokyo gourmet' in the calm setting of a residential area…

I would recommend Donguri as one of the best places in Ryogoku. The owner is really friendly and recommended meals to us during our visit there. This place is a must if you want some good memories that last a life time. Thanks for making our day. Love from Sweden

My group came here, ate and drank for 3 hours straight, and we spent less than $200. The owner is great, very friendly and helpful, and happy to communicate in English with the help of AI. He seemed very passionate about sharing the history of monja and gave us some great recommendations. Everything we had was wonderful, the monja with all the toppings is a must try. The course menu is also reasonably priced. It’s far enough away from the tourist spots that you can enjoy Ryogoku the way the locals do. Definitely recommend checking this place out if you’re in the area

This is such a lovely small restaurant in Ryogoku. The owner, who is also the cook, recommended us delighful dishes from the menu and theIr local IPA beer from Ryogoku. We tried both mojaiaki and okonomiaki, but also some other dishes with octopus and mussels and even chicken ( so you can have something for any taste). The atmosphere is cozy, food is great and the guy running this restaurant makes you feel very welcome.

If you're looking for a delicious, authentic meal and a warm welcome in Sumida, I really recommend swinging by Donguri. My family and I came in June 2026 to try the Okonomiyaki but we're glad that we ended up eating all the four meals that the owner/chef recommended: fried octopus, monjayaki, Okonomiyaki and yakisoba. The monjyaki, a local down-town Tokyo dish, was delicious! The owner/chef's explained the history of each dish. He somehow made it feel like all the guests were eating together in a large dinner party rather than as separate groups. Reserving in advance is a good idea. The menu is in Japanese but the staff speak English. Thanks for the highlight of our trip! /Nemo from Sweden

This place is amazing!! Without a doubt it was the best meal of my trip. The food was fantastic but what made it such a treat was the owner. He is very funny, extremely kind, and an incredibly gracious host. He asked for dietary restrictions and preferences and then made his recommendations. If he recommends something, do it. We loved all of them!! The monjayaki was so delicious! As he cooked it at our table, we had a wonderful conversation about the history of the dish, how to eat it, surfing, and our trip. The okonomiyaki was also fantastic. We’d been looking for it our whole trip and I’m so glad that we got it here. But the absolute star of the meal was the fried chicken (his best recommendation!). It was without a doubt, the best fried chicken I’ve ever had. I love crunchy fried chicken, like good Korean fried chicken. This was different. It was crispy, juicy, and incredibly flavorful. He recommended we squeeze some lemon on it and once again, he was right. I’d never had that before and it was delicious! We happened to go in early in the evening (I’m pretty sure he opened a little early for us), so we were the only ones in there for most of the meal, so we got a lot of attention. But even when the place was full (only 4 tables and a small bar, so I’d recommend making reservations), he was talking with the customers and made time to take some pictures with us as we left. I absolutely loved this meal for both the food and the owner. But the combo of the 2 made it so much more enjoyable and memorable. I will make it back here every time I visit Tokyo.
