This is a yakitori place that uses only chicken, but wow! Do they ever get good chicken! If you get their menu, you will get every single part of the chicken except the beak and feathers: neck, heart, gizzard, liver, everything. The yakitori is perfectly made, but I was unprepared for chicken sashimi: raw breast, thigh, and liver. I gave it all a try, and it was all exceptionally delicious. They have a small selection of sake, and everything we had there was outstanding. Highly recommended, but it’s tiny so you will need to reserve ahead.

The staff are kind, and above all, the yakitori is delicious. The smoked chicken wings are seriously outstanding. The aroma is practically beautiful, fragrant and genuinely delicious. I’ve eaten plenty at popular yakitori places, but these are by far the best smoked chicken wings I’ve had. Please give them a try. The only drawback is the wooden chairs, which are somewhat like high counter stools, so sitting for around 90 minutes gets tiring. I imagine they were designed with customer turnover in mind, but personally I’d be happy with slightly softer chairs, even if prices went up another 10%. It seems especially popular with local-looking women aged 40-60. There’s a counter, so it’s easy for women to visit alone too. They have Akaboshi, and the drinks mainly focus on sweet potato shochu. Lemon sours, shikuwasa sours, and 2 delicious varieties of sake are always available too. Even with plenty of food and 3-4 drinks, the bill is in the 5,000円 range. I wholeheartedly recommend it when you want yakitori in Higashi-Koenji.

A yakitori shop in Higashi-Koenji. Not just the skewers, but every individual dish we tried was delicious ✨ The quality is very high, yet you can enjoy it at reasonable prices. The service and atmosphere were great too. I’ll be back!

This restaurant has a history of more than 60 years, beginning as a specialist chicken butcher back when Higashi-Koenji still had a market. The butcher and prepared-food shop was completely renovated and is now a yakitori restaurant you can enjoy alone or with a group. The place itself is quite small, so I think it’s best to call and check for available seats. The menu and prices change from time to time, so please use these as a reference. Start with a draft beer poured by the owner while enjoying the day’s appetizer (the other day it was chicken tail tossed with grated daikon). The draft beer, carefully poured from a well-maintained tap, is deeply satisfying. They have some good sake selections too. All the yakitori is delicious, but the biggest surprise was the breast of Hinai-jidori chicken delivered directly from Akita. However you look at it, taste it, or think about it, surely this is thigh, not breast! That’s how juicy it is in your mouth. If the breast is this good, you can imagine how delicious the rest is. The Daisen chicken karaage, oyakodon, potato salad that has been popular since the prepared-food shop days, and more are also delicious. There is an outstanding yakitori restaurant in Higashi-Koenji.
