On my way home, my baby started crying and I was completely exhausted, so I went in hoping to take a breather and have lunch too. I had my child and a stroller with me, but I checked before entering and was shown to a table for 4, with permission to put the stroller beside my seat. As others have commented, it certainly didn't feel welcoming and there was an intimidating atmosphere. At first I regretted not simply going home without entering,,, but the restaurant was clean, the meal came with lots of small side dishes and was very delicious. Above all, the owner, who had seemed scary, said, “When you're raising a child, mothers hardly get to eat at their leisure, do they?” and quickly brought out a complimentary homemade cheesecake after my meal. His wife spoke to me too, and I was very happy. He immediately returned to the kitchen, so I thanked him again when paying, but he seemed rather curt. The food is delicious and it's a lovely, warm place, but both the owner and his wife are quiet, seem shy, and rarely smile. I thought it was a shame that they might be misunderstood, so I decided to post this.
View on GoogleYou can enjoy a delicious meal in peace. Not just the main dish, but the rice, miso soup, side dishes, and even the pickles were all properly delicious.
View on GoogleA set-meal restaurant in 堀ノ内, located in a residential neighborhood. I visited for lunch on a weekend and ordered the lunch special, メンチカツ. The main-dish menchi katsu was fried with plenty of meat juices inside. It had a somewhat unusual flavor, different from the usual beef menchi katsu, and I thought it was good in its own way. It came with stir-fried greens, pickles, and miso soup. Everything had a homemade feel. The menchi katsu is cooked after you order. The sound of the katsu frying echoed throughout the restaurant. There are tables and counter seats inside. Because of the shape of the plot, the interior is deeper than its frontage is wide.
View on GoogleStanding by itself in a residential neighborhood, on a somewhat triangular corner lot… is that why the restaurant is named 角? Both the dining area and kitchen are spacious and kept clean. Houseplants🪴 throughout make the seating area feel relaxing. The lunch tonkatsu set is 1,200円…. If I could ask for more, I'd like them to use fresh breadcrumbs rather than dry ones…. A homey place…
View on GoogleA delicious set-meal restaurant where the owner cooks with a craftsman's spirit. There's no background music, so it's very quiet. It might take some courage on your first visit. Once you've been there, there's no problem at all. An articulate staff member takes your order, and the craftsman-like owner quietly gets to work cooking it. I love the recommended set meal of the day. I want to try the regular menu, but I end up ordering the day's recommended set every time (haha). The small side dishes made with seasonal ingredients are excellent too. The dishes are delicious… It's balanced, and I feel like I'm eating something good for my body.
