They had a stall at the Chiba Sogo event space, so I looked them up out of curiosity. Their Dutch coffee had a good reputation, so I tried it. Maybe it's because I'm not very familiar with iced coffee? The bitterness was too strong, and personally it wasn't to my taste. For Dutch coffee, Indonesian robusta and Mandheling are standard, but because it's a highly acidic variety, the usual approach is a dark roast. Also, iced coffee makes flavors harder to detect, so even ordinary beans are dark-roasted. That's why I thought they were using a very dark French roast or Italian roast. To my palate, the bitterness was too strong to leave room to notice any other flavors or aromas. Coffee is a matter of personal taste, so preferences differ, but I wonder whether those calling it delicious really tasted this same flavor.
View on GoogleThe storefront had so much character that I hesitated for a moment before entering, haha, but after talking with the couple, I found them incredibly warm and heartwarming. Of course, they wouldn't be invited to regional product fairs at famous department stores nationwide if it weren't good, and their achievements have even appeared in “美味しんぼ,” so they come endorsed! It was blissful coffee that makes whoever drinks it happy♪ Thank you☕️ I was so immersed in that bliss that I forgot to take photos, but I'm posting a photo of the cold-brew coffee I took away.
View on GoogleThe cold-brew coffee was extremely concentrated and packed a punch. I suppose it's meant to be a deeply flavored iced coffee without ice. I'd never experienced that level of intensity before, but unfortunately it wasn't to my taste. They kindly offered the bench outside, but the moment I sat down, 2 nearby workers came over to smoke, so I left. Takeout, in a paper cup without a lid. 400円. The coffee jelly looked delicious.
View on GoogleA coffee shop run by an elderly couple. They're particular about roasting their beans and siphon coffee, and staying open late is part of the appeal. The elderly lady loves chatting and explains everything in detail, so you get a good understanding of what the shop cares about. They sometimes hold pop-ups at department stores and elsewhere, so the shop apparently closes occasionally. Their coffee jelly seems very popular at the pop-ups. Next time I go, I'd like to try the coffee jelly too.
View on GoogleI came across them at a nationwide gourmet fair in Morioka, Iwate Prefecture. Ordered the coffee jelly soft serve. It has cubed coffee jelly on the bottom and crushed coffee jelly above, topped with soft serve in a choice of 3 flavors and sprinkled with drip coffee grounds, so you can enjoy sweetness and bitterness together.
