Amazing! One of our best dining experiences in Japan. Genuine, great service, extraordinary food. A great time.
View on GoogleJudging from the photo, the fragrant grilled dish topped with plenty of scallions looks very delicious. For a review that's easy to post on Google Maps and similar sites, I'd recommend wording like this. This was an izakaya where every dish was delicious and made the drinks go down easily. The dish in the photo in particular was grilled to fragrant perfection and paired wonderfully with the generous scallions. Crisp outside and juicy inside, it was very satisfying. The staff were courteous, the atmosphere was comfortable, and I could enjoy a leisurely meal. It's a place I'd definitely like to visit again.
View on GoogleMy first visit! It seems to be run by a team of three: the senior mama, her grandchild, and a part-time worker! It's such a homey, comfortable place that I stayed longer than planned, haha. The senior mama is apparently from Oita Prefecture, so they have dishes from Beppu and elsewhere; I tried them for the first time, and they were delicious! I was already full, so it was a shame I couldn't try the many other dishes I wanted. They also offer bottle keeping, and it was so comfortable that I'll visit again!
View on GoogleVisited with coworkers before work. Opening the door revealed a place with quite an atmosphere. There were a few counter seats at the entrance and perhaps a tatami area in the back? It looked like it could accommodate a fair number of people, and there were lots of locals. It was bustling. We stayed about 1 hour. We ordered set meals, with a side-dish set offering a choice of 3 dishes, plus pickles, miso soup, rice, and an orange. I ordered the ebi fry set. (1300円) It contained four fairly small fried shrimp with quite a hard coating. Being ebi fry, it wasn't exactly bad, but... that was the feeling. My friend ordered saba shioyaki (1000円). I received a photo, so I'm posting it here. The proprietress was kind and spoke politely, so I'd like to take things a little more leisurely next time. Next time I'd like to try various menu items.
View on GoogleA cozy small-dish tavern run by mama and her grandchild. I visited after someone introduced it as an incredibly good place. The nearest station is 新高円寺. I think it's about 10 minutes by taxi from 高円寺 Station too. A place run by mama, who is from Oita, and her grandchild. Side dishes line the counter. They all look delicious! Haha. Actually, they were delicious! Haha. You can enjoy lots of tasty Kyushu specialties, including fresh jellyfish, squid shumai, Beppu usuyaki, and obaike (sarashi kujira). The usuyaki is light, and it feels like you could eat any number of them. Haha. The obaike, sarashi kujira dressed with vinegar-miso sauce, was tasty too. No unpleasant odor at all, and a nice bite. If this place were nearby, I'd definitely become a regular. Haha. I'll come hang out again!
