I've been here several times. You can enjoy reasonably priced set meals with plenty of vegetables that are healthy and nutritionally balanced. Budget around 1000円 including tax. I think the akadashi miso soup is delicious. They insist on making things from scratch. Even when it's quiet, serving tends to take time. The owner strikes me as a craftsman with strong convictions and quirks.
View on GoogleThis set-meal restaurant boasts 44 years in business. A bar manager in the Asagaya Star Road shopping district told me it had appeared on some TV show with an emphasis on its strong quirks. Since it's nearby, I'd been thinking I'd visit sometime. Apparently, the TV segment showed first-time visitors ordering shogayaki and not being allowed to order it. But contrary to that information? I was asked, “First time?” and told the recommended dishes. I looked over chicken and pork dishes with explanations that they take 25 minutes to cook. Thinking that was a bit long, I ordered the katsudon set meal from the recommendations this time. It was 1,100円. The notices inside about eating healthily made it clear they promote salad, but when the food arrived, the salad was as large as the katsudon or larger, accompanied by red miso soup. Vegetables first, so I started with the salad. A healthy salad with original dressing and seaweed. The katsudon was soaked in sauce and also had a gentle flavor that I enjoyed, but that's a lot of salad... Still, I enjoyed a thoroughly satisfying lunch. I'd like to visit regularly to try other dishes. Thank you for the meal.
View on GoogleI'm grateful it's nearby! The appeal of this eatery is its warm, homely atmosphere, and every dish is carefully made and truly delicious. Perfect nutritional balance! The rice dishes, sides, and miso soup are all well balanced, and “comforting flavors” describes them perfectly. Plentiful portions too! The portions are generous, and by the time you've finished, even your heart feels full. The drinks are recommended too. You can feel the owner's personality! The owner is straightforward, like splitting firewood, and says what's good is good and what's bad is bad without considering personal gain. That lets me confidently enjoy whatever is recommended at the time. The interior is clean and peaceful, and very comfortable. It's a warm place that makes you want to return in everyday life, so you can see why locals have loved it for so long. I'd like one in every neighborhood.
View on GoogleSalt-grilled sanma set meal 950円. A neighborhood set-meal restaurant where everything is delicious, with a strongly distinctive owner and his wife quietly cooking in the kitchen. As a regular, I appreciate the recommended set meals that change almost daily. The owner told me they also had sanma today. After coming for 20 years, they sometimes tell you about special dishes. He said this year's sanma were large, and a splendid salt-grilled fish arrived. Here, it doesn't stop at simple salt grilling. A refreshing Japanese-style grated daikon sauce is spread underneath, turning it into an impressive dish. The side salad has more varieties of vegetables than you could easily prepare at home, with an original dressing that's wholesome and delicious. The miso soup, with a slight akadashi character, is another thoughtfully made and delicious item.
View on GoogleChicken thigh katsu curry (with vegetable salad) 950円. A neighborhood set-meal restaurant where everything is delicious, with a strongly distinctive owner and his wife quietly cooking in the kitchen. I've been coming for 20 years. Now it has the warmth of my family home. I chose the chicken thigh katsu curry from the daily menu. Separate rice with freshly fried katsu. Pour on the curry sauce from a curry pot like those at a yoshoku restaurant and enjoy. It's delicious homestyle curry with large chunks of ingredients. The chicken katsu is tender and big too, making it good value.
