Had a random lunch here and happy with the finding. Very fresh and tasty sashimi, properly fried tempura and a good portioned teishoku in general. The price is also not bad considering the quality of the food. They only take cash though.

Although it's mostly seafood and fish since it's their specialty, there's still some nice assortment in their menu. Service is good and prompt. Try their menchi tuna if you have the chance

Saikyo-grilled sawara set meal with tempura (includes a small side dish, miso soup, and rice) 1500円, Daily potato salad 250円, and more. A fish specialty restaurant right at the entrance to Pearl Center by Asagaya Station's south exit. It's a favorite I've visited many times. This time I had the Saikyo-grilled sawara. The set meal came with a choice of sashimi or tempura, so I treated myself to tempura. The sweetness and aroma of the Saikyo miso are perfectly balanced, and the tender grilled sawara goes wonderfully with rice. There's a good selection of side dishes too, and it's nice to enjoy various things like potato salad and chilled tofu. It's a place I find myself heading to whenever I want a proper fish meal.

I'd long wanted to visit さかな食堂 in the shopping street by Asagaya Station. Older people are always lining up before it opens in the morning (11:30). This time I went around 11:20, and about 10 people were already waiting. My rating=4.5 stars. First, the food's flavor=more refined than old-fashioned country home cooking. No corners are cut anywhere; the miso soup is excellent, there are 2 side dishes, and the rice was properly new-crop rice. What surprised me was the simmered redfish I ordered this time: its size, thickness, and flavor were completely beyond expectations. Unfortunately, it seems rice refills have ended. Tea is self-service, and this is the quality of a properly trained cook. The atmosphere feels a little old, but it's fine to go alone. Most dishes are around 1300円. It seems like you can't go wrong with anything here. But perhaps they cook after you order, because you do have to wait. Looking at the menu, takeaway seems very inexpensive. I hope places like this keep going forever. It's so uninspiring when everything is a chain restaurant, isn't it? Definitely a place I'd like to visit again. Thank you for the meal.

The worst “katsuo tataki” I've ever eaten 【Information】 A seafood diner in “Asagaya Pearl Center,” the shopping street south of Asagaya Station. I visited toward the end of lunchtime, so there was no line, but it was almost full. There were lots of names on the sign-in board outside, so there may be a line at peak times. 【Order】 ◆Katsuo tataki set meal 1,200円 A set meal available for a limited time. It was so unbelievably awful that it made me think, “The katsuo tataki I've eaten until now really was delicious….” A fishy smell isn't unusual, but on top of that, it lacked any savory fish flavor, and it felt like I was eating rubber with sauce poured over it. You can choose whether to have garlic chips, but without them it would have been even harder to eat. If this had been my first katsuo tataki, it would have become a food I hated. I often visit seafood diners, but I've never had sashimi this terrible. 【Impressions】 It's a popular place and my expectations were high, so this was hugely disappointing. This was my first time walking through the shopping street by Asagaya Station's south exit, so it was nice to make a few new discoveries! I won't be returning to this restaurant, but I'd like to explore the other places nearby!
