An old-fashioned Chinese restaurant about a 5-minute walk north of Higashi-Koenji Station on the Marunouchi Line. It's a small place with around 10 counter seats. I had the hanchan ramen set. The ramen had a basic soy sauce flavor, and the fried rice was well seasoned and delicious. There was no background music or TV, so the atmosphere was quiet. Next time, let's go for a large fried rice!
View on GoogleI'm hungry. Higashi-Koenji. A calm town where the everyday life of Suginami still feels strongly present. But what I'm looking for now isn't a full course at a fancy restaurant. It's more the warmth of a “neighborhood Chinese place” that blends into the townscape, where comfort and liveliness coexist. (This won't do…… I'm searching the alleys of Higashi-Koenji for my ideal “perch.” Where is it? The place that's fed this town for years, where passing through the noren makes you instantly forget the bustle of everyday life……. At the end of a shopping street, or perhaps near the station, there must be a red counter waiting for me. Where…….) I catch sight of a familiar yet powerful sign. 「丸忠」. (丸忠……. The search was worth it. This unadorned storefront is a sign of trustworthiness. Without hesitation, I step through the noren.) Now, what to order? I look over the menu, my eyes widening at its outstanding value. “The mini-mini set, please. And an oolong hai.” What arrives is truly an “amusement park for adults.” Half a ramen, half a fried rice, and 2 gyoza. All this for an incredible 750円. First, a sip of oolong hai. “……Oh. This coldness, this clean simplicity. Irresistible.” (Gyoza first. ……! Delicious. The browned wrapper and savory filling call for a drink. I slowly pour down the oolong hai, surveying the set's lineup. ……Right. Here we go. Time to accelerate.) I shift up a gear all at once. “Slurp, bite…… slurrrp……!” (Good. The clear soup of the half ramen moistens my throat, followed by the moist half fried rice. Mini though it may be, it has plenty of presence. Gyoza in between, then a reset with oolong hai. This luxurious time. My chopsticks won't stop. No, I can't stop them!) “Munch munch…… gulp. Ah, the reliability of this neighborhood Chinese place. Irresistible.” (I press on in one go. To the last drop, the last grain, I savor the “happiness” this set provides. A deep fulfillment worth more than its 750円 price fills me. Finished.) “……Ah, perfect.” (This “treasure of the town” that I finally reached after searching everywhere. 丸忠. The mini-mini set, savored slowly with oolong hai. Its ease and satisfaction have saved my heart. I won't forget it. Finally, my Higashi-Koenji evening has reached a peaceful completion.) I leave the restaurant with a deep, warm sigh of satisfaction. “Thank you for the meal.” (丸忠. I won't forget the aroma of that fried rice and the lingering taste of oolong hai. Now, let's head home with a pleasant buzz, feeling Suginami's night breeze.)
View on Google■Restaurant name 丸忠 ■Location Higashi-Koenji Station ■Budget 1000〜1999円 ■Menu ordered ・Full-belly set ----- After basketball practice. I haven't explored much around Higashi-Koenji Station, so I took a walk around town. Then I found a neighborhood Chinese place I'd never seen before! I went straight in. What I ordered this time is listed above. ▼Full-belly set Ramen Fried rice And 2 gyoza—a good-value set. First, the ramen. Lightly seasoned and light overall. It tasted a little like hot water, which bothered me. Well, I guess that's how it is. Next, the fried rice. Plenty of Chinese stock flavor, and simply tasty. If I'm having ramen, I'd rather make this the main dish. The ingredients are as follows. Green peas Egg Chashu Green onion Carrot Finally, the gyoza. A simple flavor, with no base seasoning. Their distinctive feature is how meaty they are. This works in its own way. That's all. It was nice to discover an unfamiliar place in Higashi-Koenji, where I come every weekend! Got me a little excited, lol. I'll keep working on exploring! Thank you for the meal. I'll be back. ※Please like and save!
View on GoogleA neighborhood Chinese place near Higashi-Koenji Station. It's also a renowned spot among those in the know in Higashi-Koenji. Inside, there's only counter seating. The fried rice is outstanding. Both the stir-frying and the seasoning are excellent—true craftsmanship. The gyoza are packed full of filling too, making them meaty and satisfying.
