Visited すしの勘六 with my family👍 We settled at the counter, enjoyed some appetizers while looking at the fish, then shared the premium sushi for 2. The sashimi, sakura shrimp tempura, white shrimp tempura, grilled dishes, and hamaguri clams were all delicious. We enjoyed some white Chablis in style😋 We'll visit again

This place came up in a search and caught my interest, so I walked about 30 minutes to get there. It seemed like it would be less than a 10-minute walk from Hamadayama Station. The handwritten menu seen in older photos has been replaced with one that clearly lists prices, so there was no need to worry. However, prices aren't listed for individual orders, so be aware of that. This time I ordered the standard selection for 1800円. It was interesting that the counter was divided into 2 sections. They'll substitute toppings you dislike if you tell them beforehand. I hadn't explained my dislikes well, and when something I couldn't eat was served partway through, I apologized, saying, 'Sorry, I can't eat this either,' and they replaced it. (I felt very bad.) The egg in particular was delicious, with just the right sweetness. I added aji and iwashi individually, and both were delicious too, costing about 600円 together. (Calculated from the extra amount on the final bill.) It was homey, I enjoyed chatting about various things with the person making the sushi, and the restaurant had a pleasantly calm atmosphere. I'd intended to eat and leave quickly but ended up lingering. The service was flawless too, but the wet towel smelled bad, so I deducted 1 for that alone.
View on GoogleI visited 「すし屋の勘六」 in Suginami, Tokyo, about a 5-minute walk north of Hamadayama Station on the Keio Inokashira Line, at 11:30 on Saturday♪ NewHeart Watanabe International Hospital was nearby♪ An English hospital name is unusual, and as the name suggests, it seemed to specialize in the heart. I went to 「すし屋の勘六」 because it appeared in Hayashi Nozomu's book 「旅ゆけば味わい深し」 and a danchu neighborhood sushi feature, so I reserved by phone beforehand♪ Inside it was quite spacious. I was surprised to see an angled 9-seat counter on each side, with a tatami room at the back right too♪ Guests kept arriving at that room for a celebration of a child's first shrine visit. I was shown to a seat on the left side of the left counter♪ The glass case in front of me was lined with delicious-looking sushi ingredients♪ The chef in front of me was wonderful, explaining things and serving me with a kind smile♪ First I ordered a draft beer♪ It was unusually hot for March, and ahhh, the draft beer tasted so good♪ I was told there were sushi omakase options at 1,800円 including tax, 2,300円 including tax, and 2,800円 including tax, so I chose 2,800円 including tax and ordered several appetizers besides the sushi♪ The following appetizers arrived♪ ・Firefly squid, the first of the season Served with quality vinegared miso, they were beautifully plump, with the hard eye parts of course removed, and delicious♪ Great with beer♪ ・Monkfish liver Just the right firmness, high-quality and delicious♪ Great with beer♪ ・Grilled cuttlefish mouths I wondered what the white things in the glass case were, and was told they were cuttlefish mouths. Grilled just right, they were tender, slightly sweet, and delicious♪ ・Grilled bamboo shoots Perfectly springlike grilled bamboo shoots, delicious with quality bonito flakes♪ Then a long, narrow green bamboo leaf was placed before me, with bettarazuke and pickled ginger on it♪ Bettarazuke at a sushi restaurant is unusual♪ The sushi was then made one piece after another♪ Here, unusually these days, you pour soy sauce into a dish and dip the sushi yourself♪ ・Fresh bluefin tuna otoro Wonderfully fatty, fragrant, and delicious♪ ・Striped beakfish Lusciously textured and high-quality♪ ・Toro tekka rolls, egg, and Hokkaido bafun sea urchin on a white plate I was delighted the tekka rolls used toro—rich and delicious. The Hokkaido bafun sea urchin was suitably high-quality, firm, and delicious♪ The egg was soft, mildly sweet, and high-quality, and I loved the branded 勘六 restaurant name on it. Delicious♪ ・Fresh bluefin tuna chutoro It melted in the mouth and was delicious♪ I was so happy to have both otoro and chutoro in a 2,800円 including-tax course♪ ・Cuttlefish High-quality and delicious♪ ・Ark shell A taste of spring, delicious♪ ・Kuruma prawn Firm-fleshed and delicious♪ ・Scallop Sweet, firm, and delicious♪ During the meal I also received free hot tea, with refills available♪ Although this is a neighborhood sushi shop featured in dancyu, with prices rising lately I was a little worried about the bill, but the total was 5,700円 including tax♪ Since the sushi omakase was 2,800円 including tax, the beer and 4 appetizers came to 2,900円♪ That's truly neighborhood sushi pricing, and I was very satisfied♪ 「すし屋の勘六」 in Hamadayama, Suginami, Tokyo, deserves its appearance in dancyu's neighborhood sushi feature and elsewhere. You can readily enjoy quality seasonal sushi and appetizers, and the chef and others are kind and easygoing. Highly recommended!
View on GoogleWe had sushi delivered. They were very thoughtful, including adjusting the food for the children, which we greatly appreciated. It was a meal after a memorial service, and the family was satisfied too.
View on GoogleVisited for lunch. A long-established shop in business for 46 years The chef trained at Kanpachi before opening this place There was a raised tatami seating area too, and the place had character. I'll go again
