Good good for people on the run. Made in front of you. No frills
View on GoogleThere are about 8 counter seats along the perimeter of the interior. There are no standing-eating spots in the middle either, so it is quite spacious. As a result, compared with other Sotei branches, it feels roomier, the lighting is bright, and something like broadcast music is playing, giving it a cheerful atmosphere. Even with the bright interior, it does not feel dirty, so I think the cleanliness is at a fairly high level. I ordered squid tempura soba, but the squid tempura may have been premade and reheated in an oven; the coating had browned patches and was slightly crispy. Still, it was not the usual sort of ‘tempura,’ and the squid itself was large, so for standing-style soba it was within an acceptable range. The price was low too, and I think it passes muster.
View on GoogleI ordered asari clam soba at Sotei Ogikubo, right outside the West Ticket Gate of Ogikubo Station on the Chuo Line. The bonito stock and soy sauce in the broth had a nicely balanced strength, with a little flavor also seeping out from the asari clams, which was good. The noodles were medium-thick and on the soft side. But I did not feel the broth and noodles came together. There is also a standing-eating area.
View on GoogleOh, it has been renovated without my noticing, and the kitchen is on the opposite side now. The menu…, still no kishimen, huh. But that item that was sold out at Ikebukuro Station is still here. Fukagawa meshi set: the soba here is also in the traditional standing-eating style, but to me the stock has a mild yet distinctive flavor that I feel I could recognize even in a blind test. This should create a nice synergy with the asari clam flavor of the Fukagawa meshi! …Oh, not so much. The clam flavor definitely comes through, though. Maybe it is because, unlike Yoshinoya's, the clam component is not liquid or a soup. But each is very delicious on its own. It is almost too generous that this costs ¥600.
View on GoogleAbove all, the broth is delicious✨ There are standing spots and seated spots. Until 9 in the morning, you can enjoy breakfast soba at a good price. This is where I discovered chrysanthemum greens soba. It might be tastier than the soba shops around here👍
