I never met my grandma, but if I did, this is probably what it would’ve been like. Like stepping into a time warp and into a much simpler time in life, the small living room turned restaurant space is charming and exudes a sense of nostalgia. There is a comfortable, understanding, and welcoming atmosphere as I am greeted by one of three older ladies who hands me my water and takes my order. I ordered the fried rice and gyoza. The turnaround time is slow, expectedly, as the older ladies move around with grace. I am first brought my gyoza, “I added an extra piece in there” says the older lady; who gives me a warm smile like she is spoiling her grandchild. I feel loved. The fried rice came later served by another older lady who takes a good look at my face like she is seeing me for the first time (well, she is). Food is comforting. The flavours are gentle, timeless, and something your grandma would make for you. After I finished my food I went up to the counter to call for the third older lady. She couldn’t hear me the first time, but came after I spoke a bit louder. I let her know the food was delicious and was reciprocated with a toothy, comforting smile. I leave the restaurant feeling full. Not physically though as the gentle flavours and Japanese portions while on point, weren’t enough to fill me up; however, it was more than enough to satisfy my soul - a feeling I haven’t felt in a long time since I moved to Japan. Thank you, grandma.

About 15 seats with a plain and family atmosphere. Reminds me very much of an old Chinese restaurant I used to eat at many years ago, but without the deep fry options. Gentle music lost under Japanese TV. Doesn't seem to have any Wi-Fi or charging, though there's a nearby guest network that might be available. Feels pretty old-fashioned, including having my favorite Kirin lager beer. Pretty good chahan, though a bit expensive. I probably would have felt it was a better value with the egg or regular chahan. Calling it a regular four stars.

This place has amazing fried rice. The lady running the shop looks like she's about 80, but she sure knows how to cook!

A town Chinese restaurant loved for a long time in Nishi-Ogikubo. Fried rice, noodle soup, and handmade gyoza are the signature menus, especially the fried rice is a popular dish. The old-fashioned, unpretentious atmosphere is also attractive, and it's a shop where you can think that this kind of town Chinese restaurant is really good.
