Good but wasn’t what I was expecting. Way more cold dishes than hot. I don’t know if it’s really my cup of tea hence only 3 stars. But this is a popular joint. Rice at the end of my fav ! Prob a better place to come for those who enjoy drinking / snacking.

Excellent sashimi, friendly staff, cozy atmosphere

This is an izakaya mainly serving shellfish dishes. It's down an alley, a 5〜6-minute walk from Koenji Station. I sat on the 2nd floor, where the atmosphere felt like my family home and made me feel relaxed. The very unusual ordering method—using the restaurant's cordless phone handset—was interesting. The food was delicious and kept the drinks flowing, so I was satisfied. Recommended for anyone who wants to enjoy a deeply local atmosphere.

Savoring an exquisite pairing of shellfish and sake at 「あぶさん」 in Koenji! For our farewell party, we chose Koenji's renowned drinking spot, 「あぶさん」. Known for its exquisite combination of shellfish dishes and sake, it gave us a fitting evening to send off someone who had done so much for us. The interior has a truly "quintessentially Japanese" feel. With its understated, characterful atmosphere, dishes showcasing skilled craftsmanship, and carefully selected sake, it feels like a drinking spot for adults. Quietly enjoying drinks in a space like this is simply wonderful. Now, as the photos show, we had an array of shellfish dishes. Grilled, steamed, or served as sashimi, every preparation fully brought out the ingredients' savory flavors and paired beautifully with sake! The butter-grilled scallops in particular had an irresistible, rich sweetness that spread through the mouth. They were so delicious I couldn't stop eating, and found myself thinking, "Even someone slim with a small appetite like me could keep eating shellfish this flavorful forever!" The sake selection was excellent too, and I appreciated their pairing suggestions. They offer a wide range, from crisp and refreshing to full-flavored, so you can enjoy considering how each matches the food. We finished with a soup rich in shellfish stock and had a thoroughly satisfying time lingering over the flavors and sake. However, the prices are a little high. It's understandable considering the food quality, but it may not be priced for casual visits. Still, it's a fantastic place for those "special occasions!" If you want to indulge in luxurious shellfish dishes and sake, I highly recommend visiting at least once!
