Definitely recommending this place. Quaint but warm. The staffs speak very little english but very welcoming and polite. They even have an english menu for foreigners. Our table can oversee the making of their soba. Their soba is very chewing and tasty. It has a very light sweet taste afterward. The broth of my warm soba is tangy, and flavorful. Their tempura is also freshly fried, no oily feeling. So crispy. Ingredients are fresh. We had our dog with us (fully enclosed in her stroller) and the restaurant let us dine there. No fuss. So grateful to them. Would definitely come back again.
View on GoogleA soba shop where the pace slows naturally. Handmade Soba Watanabe in Nishi-Shinjuku centers around handmade soba, with a glass-enclosed soba-making space inside the restaurant. Depending on the timing, you may catch the process itself—dough, rhythm, repetition, precision. This time, we ordered the Tenseiro: cold soba served with tempura including shrimp, seaweed, carrot, and sweet potato. The contrast is part of the experience. Cool, firm noodles beside freshly fried tempura still holding heat and texture. The menu extends beyond cold soba to warm soba and udon, while classic soba-shop small plates such as itawasa (kamaboko with wasabi) and fried soba snacks make it easy to stay longer than expected. Not just a place to eat quickly, but a place to settle into the rhythm of the shop itself. Part of how we read Shinjuku.
View on GoogleAn authentic and traditional soba shop with a simple, straightforward menu. The flavours are simple and light, perhaps a bit bland for some, but still very tasty and refreshing. It is great for a quick bite. The staff are welcoming to foreigners, providing English instructions and doing their best to help in basic English. Just keep in mind that it is cash only. Worth a visit if you are in Shinjuku.
View on GoogleTheir duck soba was great! Don't be intimidated that their staff only speaks Japanese, they will accommodate you the best they can. They are very helpful and approachable. Also, the have an English menu. Lines can queue on peak hours.
View on GoogleI popped in over the weekend after a friend’s recommendation. I ordered the tororo soba, which was both affordable and delicious. The staff were kind enough to offer me a mesh basket to keep my bag in, which was a nice touch. If you're looking to enjoy authentic soba, this is definitely the place to visit!
