和心中華酒家 ぐうぐうマンモスWa Shinju Hana Shuka Gugu Manmosu
We opened in 2010. We’re a neighborhood Chinese restaurant with an izakaya-like feel where everyone can casually drop in. Set meals are available even for solo diners. Enjoy a fun meal or drinks with a group. We also accept private banquet bookings for groups of 14 or more. Though we’re a small restaurant, we offer the wide variety of dishes you’d expect from a neighborhood Chinese spot, catering to everything from a quick drink after work to tonight’s dinner or a private banquet. During Monday–Friday lunch hours, we limit the menu for operational reasons. Thank you for your understanding.

My friends and I decided to stop at this restaurant near our Airbnb after spotting an advertisement for fried chicken. We had no idea we were in a Chinese restaurant until looking through the menu, luckily there was a QR code to an English version. The restaurant itself wasn’t too busy and it had a very homey vibe. We ended up ordering a few dishes to share, we got the fried chicken, Sichuan pork belly, and crab omelette. One of my friend also got the pork ramen. Fried chicken: Probably the highlight of the whole meal, the chicken was crispy and flavorful. We all really liked the garlic sauce that was on top. 8.8/10 Sichuan pork belly: The most disappointing dish, it was overly oily and wasn’t spicy like how the name would suggest. The flavor was alright but needed a side of rice to absorb all that oil. 6.2/10 Crab Omelette: The first bite surprised me, the sauce was slippery and gelatinous but the flavor good and it had a combination of savory and slightly sweet. The omelette itself had pieces of crab and bamboo cooked in and after a few bites, I grew to enjoy it. 7.5/10
View on GoogleExcellent 豚角煮. Fat melts instantly. Ebi chili was good, and mabo was great. Not much in spice, but packed with flavor. Shumai is massive and meaty. The staff work in unison, and their dance is wonderful to watch. I wish the place was close to home. Authentic or not, this is a blue collar frequent visit for excellent food.

View on GoogleUpdated June 11, 2025 It’s been almost 10 years since I started going to 「ぐうぐうマンモス」 in Iidabashi. I always look forward to their delicious lunches, but the other day I tried the Tuesday-and-Thursday-only 「白胡麻担々麺」 for the first time. The mellow richness of white sesame and just the right amount of heat matched perfectly, and it was so delicious I drank every last drop of the soup! The fragrant roasted flavor also paired wonderfully with the chewy noodles—truly an impressive bowl. I think I’ll be looking forward to Tuesdays and Thursdays from now on! Below is my review from 8 years ago ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー There are 3 lunch options: 「鶏・肉・海」. They sometimes change daily, or perhaps it depends on the owner’s mood. The food is delicious, and since there aren’t many restaurants around here, you won’t get bored rotating through these 3 options for lunch. ※Personally, I can only do 2 times in a row m(_ _)m From the outside, it looks like an ordinary izakaya, which might make you hesitant to enter. But it’s one of the places I really like for the very courteous service from the owner and the staff.
