Uokushi Sakurasaku
魚串(Uokushi)was born in Kagurazaka, Tokyo, in 2009. As meat consumption increased and people moved away from fish, could grilled fish, part of Japan's traditional food culture, be preserved in a form suited to today's eating styles? After much trial and error, “魚串” emerged: whole fish prepared and cut into easy-to-eat, bite-sized pieces, then skewered and grilled like yakitori. In addition to simple salt grilling, flavor variations were developed, including homemade Saikyo miso marinades and basil sauce. There are also uokushiage, such as skewered fried roe-bearing kombu and salmon, and aburimeshi skewers that let you enjoy ikura and uni in a grilled-onigiri style. Seeking further possibilities for “魚串,” using fresh fish sourced from the market, the artisans…

All our fish skewers were over cooked. Atmosphere is nice but if you want juicy , succulent grilled fish this is not it. The sashimi and prawns were ok. Prawns also slightly over done. The breaded oysters were ok.
View on GoogleUsed to go to Torikizoku all the time but now I have a much better skewer place to go. The chef who wore a hat had really good taste in music. He played lots of oldies 👍🏻 The food is absolutely delicious & the waitress was kind AND very friendly. She could speak English too & while it’s not native level, her effort is truly commendable! I will visit again for sure! Such a wonderful dining experience!
View on GoogleMy partner and I stopped by for lunch before heading to Wrestle Kingdom in Jan 2025. The skewers were phenomenal! I loved the easy and foreigner friendly manner of ordering through the QR code on our phones. I tried different types of fish and seafood. Don't sleep on the cream cheese! I had seconds, it was so delicious. I hope to return in January 2027!
View on GoogleAfter three years living in Tokyo, this izakaya on Iidabashi's main shopping street has become one of my absolute favorites. Their fresh fish with minimal preparation lets the amazing natural flavors shine through. The fish here is outstanding. Every piece of salmon comes out perfectly grilled with crispy skin and tender, flaky interior that's to die for. All their fish options are beautiful and you can taste the difference fresh ingredients make. No heavy sauces, just expert grilling that highlights quality sourcing. The drink prices are surprisingly reasonable compared to other Tokyo izakayas, and service is quick. I love that they let you choose your otoshi from options like pickled eggs or nuts instead of just giving you whatever. Great atmosphere, authentic and lively but comfortable for conversation. The staff are genuinely friendly and keep the place impressively tidy. Located right on the main shopping street, this has become my go-to spot for exceptional fish, great value drinks, and consistently excellent service.
View on GoogleHappy we stopped by as this izakaya was one of the last options late at night! Great bites, drinks, solid service and a good atmosphere. The mixed seafood skewers were great - could have easily had far more.
