(Posting date・visit date) 2026・6・20 Gomoku soba (750円), mapo tofu (700円) It's been a while since I came to this area. Though I do come by car. Two men run the place. Father and son? Gomoku soba Oh, a classic. I'd like to call it standard, but there's no datemaki. Well, it has the basic toppings. Well, even at this price, the toppings are a little sparse. 😞 Every time I think they could raise the price a little. The soup is outstanding. Maybe the noodles are a little scarce too? 🤔 ⭐️4 Mapo tofu This is excellent value for money. A little lacking in umami, but delicious. ⭐️4.5 The one who seems to be the son? provides very humble service. His cooking is careful too. The one who seems to be the owner looks stern. Like someone from the old days. Does the supporting work. Refilling seasonings and prioritizing washing dishes. When I left, although he'd initially been quiet, he gave the usual service. The one who seems to be the son naturally looks kind.

The neighborhood Chinese restaurant “栃尾” in Nakano is charming for its warm, old-fashioned atmosphere. There are 4 counter seats and 2 tables with 4 seats each. At lunchtime, the ramen and half fried rice set and the yakiniku rice bowl set are popular. The ramen has a light chicken-bone-based broth with plenty of chashu and menma, making it satisfying! The fried rice is homestyle and moist, with a comforting flavor despite its lack of flashiness. The interior is small, but each dish is carefully prepared, and the staff provide approachable, very kind service. The atmosphere makes it easy to enter alone too. Prices are reasonable at around 800円 for a set, and as a reassuring, deeply rooted, quintessential neighborhood Chinese restaurant, it's perfect for lunch or a quick meal.

After Gokokuji, I visited the Araiyakushi-mae branch. The red tables and menu strips, quintessential neighborhood Chinese restaurant features, feel comforting. “肉入りチャーハン” costs 800円. The golden fried rice with only egg is quite moist. Rather than moist, it's on the soggy side. The simple scorched-soy-sauce seasoning smells good. Not too strong, with a clean flavor. In contrast, the chashu is thoroughly seasoned and very delicious. It's light chashu with little fat, so you don't tire of it even with a generous amount. Surprisingly, the slightly soggy fried rice doesn't bother me, and I keep eating. Personally, of the three 栃尾 siblings, this might be my favorite for taste.

I spent about 40 minutes here from around 12:30 on Friday. There were 3 groups before me and 2 after me. It felt like “THE neighborhood Chinese restaurant”. There are many menu items, and dishes can be ordered individually or as set meals. I ordered the meat and garlic chive set meal (900円). It was delicious.

I had the 朝鮮焼き set meal, which I haven't seen very often. A generous amount of garlicky pork is piled on grilled vegetables, packing a punch and making the white rice go down easily. The freshly cooked white rice and accompanying soup are delicious too. The interior is old, but clean and well maintained, making it comfortable and reminding me how nice old-fashioned neighborhood Chinese restaurants are. Since it's far from the station, it's relatively quiet in the evening, and I'm grateful to be able to eat peacefully alone.
