A Meal — and a Moment — I’ll Never Forget I visited Teradaya back in 2016, and it’s still one of my most cherished memories from Tokyo. I stopped by for a simple maguro don, and what I got was not just an amazing meal, but a moment of kindness I’ll never forget. The tuna bowl was perfect — fresh slices of maguro over warm rice, prepared with care and served without fuss. It was exactly the kind of meal I was looking for: honest, comforting, and delicious. But what stood out even more was the woman running the shop. When I realized I didn’t have enough cash to pay, I told her I needed to go withdraw money. She simply nodded and waited patiently — no stress, no suspicion, just quiet trust. That small gesture left a lasting impression on me. This isn’t a fancy or flashy place, but it has something far more rare: sincerity. If you're near Shinjuku and want a meal that stays with you long after you leave, I highly recommend Teradaya.

This place is amazing!! I've been coming here every time I'm in Japan since 2013. You just order from the ticket machine and you get great food for a very cheap price! Note: seats are limited as it's a small place.

She runs the shop on her own and keeps the price-quality through the roof, especially for Omoide-Yokocho

Fresh fish bowls, amazing value! Way better than the tourist shops down the street.

This price range is very good for Shinjuku. Some items are reasonably priced. Compared with the photo, there's about half as much negitoro. The salmon is also quite small, but considering the price, I suppose that's about right? The service is average.
