Was very nice tempura, battered nicely and lightly, we enjoyed not only the quality of the tempura frying technique, but also the freshness of the ingredients. great historical atomosphere inside. Did not know the reno was coming up, glad we were able to have a nice lunch here. Sashimi was really nice too.

This tempura restaurant has a wonderful Showa-era atmosphere that feels warm, nostalgic, and inviting the moment you walk in. The food is excellent, with each piece of tempura fried in fragrant sesame oil, which adds a rich aroma and depth of flavor you don’t often find. Everything tastes light, crisp, and carefully prepared. The tendon is an especially great choice for lunch — generous portions, perfectly cooked tempura over rice, and very satisfying without feeling heavy. Combined with the reasonable pricing, it offers outstanding value for money. Service is attentive and friendly, and the overall experience feels relaxed and authentic. A great spot if you’re looking for delicious tempura in a classic setting. Highly recommended.

The Heritage Edit: An Authentic Tempura Masterclass at Shinjuku Tsunahachi For those seeking the "old soul" of Tokyo amidst the neon of Shinjuku, Tempura Shinjuku Tsunahachi Souhonten is the definitive choice. This isn't just a meal; it’s a preservation of culinary heritage. Visiting for a late weekday lunch is the ultimate editor’s move—avoiding the legendary queues and securing a front-row seat to the craft. The Experience: Front-Row Artistry We were seated immediately at the traditional counter, which is the only way to truly experience Tsunahachi. There is a quiet, rhythmic choreography to watching the chef prepare each piece one-by-one. The proximity to the hot oil—yet smelling only the delicate, nutty aroma of high-quality sesame oil—is a hallmark of a master-led kitchen. The Vibe: Effortlessly Authentic In a city of "Instagram-first" spots, Tsunahachi remains refreshingly unfiltered and authentic. During our visit, the room was filled almost entirely with locals, which is the highest endorsement any traveler can look for. The atmosphere is dignified yet welcoming, perfect for a slow, mindful lunch. * The Set: We opted for the lunch sets, which are surprisingly generous in portion. * The Highlight: The sequence of seafood and seasonal vegetables, served piping hot directly from the fryer to your plate, ensures every bite is at its peak texture. The Verdict Tsunahachi Souhonten is a "must-save" for anyone prioritizing Japanese craftsmanship over hype. It offers a high-end, chef-led experience at a remarkably accessible price point. Editor’s Tip: Aim for the 1:30 PM - 2:00 PM window on a Tuesday or Wednesday. You’ll likely bypass the wait and get that serene, intimate counter experience that makes for perfect "behind-the-scenes" content.

While walking around looking for food, we surprisingly came across this shop and saw some people queuing up, so we decided to give it a try. The food here is really nice, especially since you can order a big size without any extra charge — and I eat a lot, so that's a great deal for me… hehe The taste was really good, and we were completely satisfied with both ramen bowls. Highly recommended!

These tempura chefs cook your food in front of you and look dapper while doing it! The quality of this tempura is extremely high. Nothing feels overly oily, and the things they fry are of high quality. I love dipping the tempura in their salt. I recommend their set menus as the individual orders of food are somewhat small.
