View on GoogleWandering around 神楽坂, I felt a little thirsty and thought I'd have a beer, so I came into this restaurant. I hadn't researched anything at all, but looking at the reviews here, it seems that the famous John Lennon and Yoko Ono once visited together incognito. The bottled beer is Kirin. It comes with crackers made from eel backbones. The unaju arrived 40 minutes after ordering. By the way, for an extra 200 yen, the soup can be changed to eel liver soup. As for the all-important taste, the eel was plump and tender, and the little bones didn't bother me. The sauce was neither too sweet nor too salty, but it had a slight acidity. Not an unpleasant acidity—perhaps they add something when replenishing the sauce? This part will divide opinions. The eel liver soup was perfectly good. The pickles were quite salty. Overall, I probably wouldn't come specifically for this place. If I were craving eel, I'd walk a little farther to 江戸川橋.

View on GoogleThe restaurant has a retro exterior, and there's a lovely atmosphere inside too. I ordered unaju, and the exceptional sauce soaked into the fluffy, tender eel. Unlike the usual strongly flavored, sweet sauces, this lets you enjoy the eel's own flavor. The price is a little steep, but with warnings that eel faces extinction, I'd like to continue enjoying it the old-fashioned way: “savoring a small amount of luxurious eel on a special occasion.
