This is a tsukemen/ramen shop in Shinjuku, "Taishoken Maruichi Shinjuku Southeast Exit Branch". Trained as the last disciple at the legendary Higashi-Ikebukuro Taishoken which closed in March 2007, inheriting its technique and spirit, "Taishoken Maruichi" was born in July of the same year in Akabane, Kita-ku, Tokyo. As the last successor, we will continue to strive every day without letting Mr. Yamagishi's heart taste disappear, and the staff will try to make a shop loved by customers, and we want to serve the best bowl. Our shop is located a 2-minute walk from the southeast exit of Shinjuku Station. The interior of the shop is the largest among Maruichi, and we also provide a table for 4 people, although there is only one. The shop is near Otsuka Kagu, ...

The food was underwhelming; the broth tasted odd, and the spice level was non-existent. The ordering system is a nightmare—the machine resets too quickly and only works in English. To make matters worse, they don't take credit cards (No Visa/Mastercard), which is very inconvenient for travelers. Also, be aware that you only get one egg per order. Overall, a frustrating experience.

Today, when I was at the door of this restaurant, choosing what I wanted to eat, I was approached by a restaurant employee, who was somewhat rude, and simply said: No, you can't! and made "X" gestures with his hands and waved to the street, saying: go away. And he went back into the restaurant, even though he didn't know if I understood the message. My wife and I were there with our two daughters, ages 7 and 3, who were in a baby stroller. Yes, all of this was because of the baby stroller. The problem wasn't that we didn't get in, but how I was treated. I understand that the restaurant is small and full, but there's no need to treat people like that. Just saying "unfortunately we can't accommodate you, we don't have space" would have been fine. I'm sad about the situation, because the food seemed good, but with employees like that, it doesn't do much good! I can't comment on the food, but the service doesn't seem to be very good.

Honestly I couldn’t finish it. The noodles are too thick and hard. The soup is way too thick. There might be people who might like this kind but not me. I hated it. I had a couple of bites and thats it. People who lives thick, udon like ramen noodles and very thick broth, go and taste them but if you like those skinny curly noodles and simple soy sauce based soup, you’d hate them.

This place has decent tsukamen and ramen which are served in large portions. Located very close to Shinjuku station. Note that staff speaks barely any English. You first decide what you want from the menu outside the restaurant (there is a small English menu stuck on the payment machine which I've attached). You then deposit cash into the payment machine and select the appropriate number that corresponds with your chosen meal. I've also attached another picture of the machine for reference. Upon making payment, you'll be issued a receipt. Take this in and hand it over to the waiter/waitress and take your seat. The restaurant is pretty small and seats about 22 people at any one time. I had the basic tsukamen (hot soup option, cold also available) and basic ramen at 790 yen each bowl. The portions served are actually pretty large and the broth is absolutely thick, rich and delicious. Unfortunately, I did not manage to fit anything else.

TO TOURISTS & LOCALS: Don’t waste your time and money at this restaurant! Food: I ordered the winter special. The pork was a single small piece of pork - 2cm x 5 cm, tough and cold. The soup base was lukewarm. The egg and noodles were decent, but definitely had much better elsewhere, including from my home country. Service: I went on Dec 25 2023 at 9:50pm after a magical at Disney Sea. The clerk absolutely ruined the ending of a beautiful Christmas Day. Many restaurants were about to close so we double checked if they were open by asking politely (there was no obvious signage with opening hours). We self-served by ordering our dinner at the vending machine outside. There were maybe two other customers in the restaurant at that time so he could have definitely greeted us. I understand the limited English vocabulary, but he didn’t even try to make our experience pleasant. He abruptly put down our food and his chef had to hand over our dumplings over the counter - they were lukewarm and soggy, fried with too much oil. He intentionally stood behind us when we were taking our selfie photos so I had to cut out his face to avoid him. When I went to the washroom, he stood in the tiny hallway and didn’t bother moving while I passed him. I even said thank you while I passed him to acknowledge him. I used the washroom and when I got out, he was standing in front of me and told me to CLOSE the washroom door. I was so confused/shocked when he said the only word “CLOSE” so loudly so it took him two times to order me to close the washroom door shut. I quickly registered that it was closed when I first found the washroom, but ORDERING your customers to do things in an impolite way is RUDE. There should be a sign to ask customers to close the door if this is how he wants to run the restaurant. Atmosphere: The shop doesn’t feel clean in general - from the floors, to the tables, to the washroom. Needs some serious cleaning. I thought maybe the clerk was just rude to foreigners (we are a young Chinese couple but spoke English and were barely talking to each other after a long day at Disney), but after reading other reviews - seems like he was also rude to locals. Please don’t waste your energy!
