About 『新宿うな鐵』 Shortly after the war, eel was expensive, and it all began when our founder, wishing “Couldn't eel be enjoyed at an affordable price?” and “Couldn't it be eaten more casually as a snack with drinks?”, started serving grilled eel skewers. For about 70 years since, we have devoted ourselves wholeheartedly to eel, continuing to explore it and serving a wide range of eel dishes that make full use of every part, from head to bones, with nothing going to waste. What we at 新宿うな鐵 have carefully preserved since our founding is the live feel you sense as soon as you step through the noren: the smoke and sound of binchotan charcoal, the savory aroma of grilling sauce, and the spirited voices and skilled hands of our craftsmen! We want every customer who visits to truly enj…

Eel is good. We had two kinds: your typical Unajyu in the lacquer box, and just grilled. I prefer the latter, but the former is decent. Get the bottle of beer, you'll get more than with draft. The top floor is tatami and shoeless. Personally it doesn't add much to the experience, but it was quiet as we were the only guests on this floor. A decent if expensive unagi place in Shinjuku. Okay for your first time, or if you can't visit Narita.

Restaurant that specialises in unagi. Was looking for a decent unagi restaurant whilst in Japan when we came across this one — I LOVE EEL 😶 Whilst waiting for our food, you can smell the food cooking however, smells like BBQ prawns rather than unagi or charcoal/grill. Not sure how they created that smell. The eggs unagi was pretty good! The egg was cooked well and the unagi was soft — felt like I was just eating egg! I ordered the Premium Rice Box which came with a eel liver soup, pickled vegetables and the unagi on rice. The pickled vegetables tasted pretty plain (I need vegetables cause there's no fibre in Japan), and the soup had a pretty intense taste to it, it was too much for me personally. The rice was cooked very well and same with the unagi on top. It just wasn't what I was expecting. I had an expectation that Japanese eel was crispy, but it was just soft.. a little too soft for my liking. The flavour was nice, but they could have covered it with more sauce on my opinion. Overall it wasn't what I was expecting and didn't meet my personal eel tasting. I love eel but it just wasn't it for me. Did not satisfy my eel craving. Also the staff were a little passive aggressive and their eftpos machine failed. If you like soft and tender eel, might be worth a visit, otherwise if you want crispy eel then maybe skip!

If you are looking for Unagi (freshwater eel) this is your spot. Only locals but they do have an english menue. Make a reservation they are busy but we're able to sit me a few minutes early. Bring your appetite if you go for the double portion

We stumbled upon this place while walking through the neighborhood. We loved eel so we had to check it out and the meal was delicious. I really enjoyed the Egg and Unagi!

Overall 8/10 💰 ~ 2.500 - 3.000/dish (quite expensive for us) The food: ☺️ The unagi was beautifully grilled—crispy on the outside, soft and tender inside—with a pleasant smoky aroma. It was well-balanced in flavor: sweet, savory, and not overly salty. ☺️ On the side, there were lime, salt, and crunchy pickles to adjust the taste to your preference. The rice, seasoned with a sweet-salty sauce (possibly the same used for the eel), was quite flavorful. The experience: ☺️ We were seated on the second floor, where the seating was comfortable. ☺️ We were offered warm towels, very relaxing. ☺️ The staff was kind enough to let us know that green tea was free-of-charge before we ordered drinks. 😔 However, our food took about 15–20 minutes to arrive, which felt a bit long.
