A renowned spot spread out underground in Shinjuku, full of Showa-era vibes, with Kagoshima specialty dishes and rare shochu They have kibinago sashimi, which is rare in Tokyo Apparently the sashimi other than kibinago changes depending on that day's stock; on the day we went it was spring bonito and hiramasa Even for unfamiliar names like tsukeage (satsuma-age) and dakkyu (rakkyo), they explain things carefully The shochu selection is extensive, and if you tell them your preferences they'll recommend a brand On the rocks is poured to the brim of the glass, so it's like 2 glasses' worth at other places, so be careful not to drink too much We got in by arriving right at 17:30, but within about an hour it was full with reservations, so reservations are recommended

I went to Satsuma Ogojo in Shinjuku Sanchome. Inside, the lighting is calm and the atmosphere is warm. There's a relaxed feel that lets you take your time, and I felt it's an easy place to use whether for a meal with friends or drinking alone. Many of the dishes have Kagoshima-style seasoning, and the mellow soy sauce and sauces that seem to bring out the natural sweetness of the ingredients left an impression. You can tell everything is carefully prepared, and even in a short time you feel like you're "getting a taste of Kagoshima's food culture." Personally I'm not very fond of sweeter soy sauces and sauces, so some parts weren't to my taste, but as seasoning, the regional character really comes through, and it's the kind of finish that people who like it would find irresistible. On the other hand, there were also several lighter dishes, so combining those menu items seems like a way to enjoy a good balance. The staff had a nice vibe too, and overall it was a warm izakaya where you can enjoy "the Kagoshima feel.

【A restaurant where you can enjoy the warm hospitality and delicious food of the grandchild of "Tome-san," the mother of the Chiran Tokko pilots】 <Today's mood> I got invited, so I'm giving it a try. Looking forward to good food and talking with "the grandchild." <What I ordered> "Today's" dishes▼ Today's sashimi: wild kanpachi, engawa Katsuo no tataki New onion Dishes from the menu▼ Kibinago sashimi ¥660 Tsukeage (satsuma-age) ¥660 Genkotsu-age ¥880 Otoshi: simmered kabocha and taro <Thoughts on the taste> Everything was truly delicious. Wild kanpachi →Apparently it just happened to come in. Rich with fat but not heavy, and it has sweetness. No fishy smell at all. Way too delicious. Engawa →Loaded with fat and super juicy, yet strangely not heavy. It would definitely go with shochu. (I'm pregnant right now so alcohol will have to wait for another time, sob) Katsuo no tataki →Thick-cut. Chewy flesh. No fishy smell at all, and a clean bonito aroma spreads through your nose. Delicious. New onion →Is this fruit? It was so good it overturned everything I thought I knew about new onions. Goes well with miso. The best. Kibinago sashimi ¥660 →So glossy. Beautiful. With homemade sumiso. The not-heavy sumiso and the aroma of kibinago, typical of silver-skinned fish, go together perfectly... Delicious.... Tsukeage (satsuma-age) →2 kinds. The satsuma-age with sardine and lots of tofu was very fragrant and fluffy. The satsuma-age made with flying fish and such had strong sweetness, and the chewy texture and fragrance were the best. Genkotsu-age →Karaage made from Satsuma jidori chicken. The chicken was plump and juicy. The rich seasoning that makes you want to eat it with beer is also ◎ Kagoshima Highball →The recommended highball. A highball made with the shochu "Hozan." Apparently it has so little harshness that it's easy to drink, enough that even people who aren't good with alcohol say it goes down easily. (I want to drink it...) Chiran tea A branded green tea from Minamikyushu City (formerly Chiran Town), Kagoshima. It's just so mellow. Not too bitter, but the roasty character of green tea is definitely there. A refreshing clarity that makes you want to drink it in summer. <Restaurant atmosphere> ・Counter ・Tables ・The old-fashioned interior makes it feel like you've time-slipped to the Showa? Taisho? era. Everything everywhere is wonderfully classic. <Service> "Just let us know when you want to order more~" "If there's anything you're unsure about, just ask~" So full of lovely consideration that it warmed my heart. I'm glad I got to hear a little about Chiran🙌 <About the restaurant> A restaurant specializing in Kagoshima regional cuisine that has passed down for generations the flavors of "Tome Torihama," the mother of the Chiran Tokko pilots. Apparently they have over 100 brands of shochu...! If you're curious, I recommend looking up the restaurant and Tome Torihama before you go. <A few words> The happiness of sharing really delicious food with friends. Moments that made me realize the heartwarming hospitality. A space that evokes an era I never lived in, yet somehow feels nostalgic. The experience of hearing a precious story. I had a truly enjoyable, rich time❀ Thank you very much. Thank you for the meal!
