Special shoyu ramen. Tasty, but not particularly distinctive. Since the restaurant's name includes sansho, is tantanmen the main dish? Yet for some reason, the tantanmen button is in an awkward position on the ticket machine, so it doesn't feel promoted. Since this used to be 桃の木, I wish they'd bring it back (I want to eat the one-of-a-kind Bulgaria tsukemen).

A tsukemen shop with a punchy sansho kick. Love how it makes you break a light sweat!

I ordered 醤油ラーメン. The prices are on the high side. Thin, wide chashu, red onion, green onions, tender-tip menma, and sansho berries. Sansho berries are expensive. But few people would be satisfied with this selection and quantity of toppings. They might as well charge 1500円 and include a satisfying amount. I especially liked the fruity flavor of the sansho berries. I don't think satisfaction with ramen comes from its price.

This shop moved into the former premises of 「桃の木」, part of the せたが屋 group, taking over its existing fittings. Apparently, 「さんしょの木」 is also part of the せたが屋 group. I wanted something spicy this time, so I chose a large 「つけ担々麺」. I was surprised that the noodles arrived already looking like soupless abura soba with minced meat. They were reasonably seasoned even eaten on their own. True to the shop's name, they were generously sprinkled with sansho. The tantan dipping soup had no particularly noticeable toppings, but eating it with the noodles made it taste like tantanmen. In terms of mala, you could say the noodles handle the numbing sensation and the dipping sauce handles the heat. There's a small bottle of ground flowering sansho on the counter, so feel free to add more if you need it. The noodles were a little too oily. Combined with the oil in the soup, it muddled the flavor. With every additional bite, oil was the first thing I noticed. Still, I felt the stronger seasoning was deliberately calculated to compensate. At the end, when they diluted the dipping soup with broth, it was great that they heated the remaining soup first rather than immediately diluting it. Anyway, I was satisfied to enjoy plenty of sansho for the first time in a while. Next time, I plan to try 醤油ラーメン.

I went with high hopes because this ramen shop opened in the former 桃の木 location, but honestly, it was disappointing. I ordered 『坦々つけ麺』 and 『カレー丼』, but the noodles were as soft as overcooked instant noodles, with no chew at all, like eating soggy somen. The soup lacked depth too, and finishing it would have been difficult without using the sansho in front of me. The カレー丼 was only a little better than ready-made pouch curry. Previously, 1 person ran the place, and now there are 4, but watching from outside, they didn't seem to be getting through the work as before; it felt like watching a university club. I suppose that might explain the soggy, lukewarm noodles. The only good thing was the unlimited sansho.
