Hotteok is a popular Korean sweet pancake that I only just found out about during this Japan trip. I was told about it by fellow Korean food-loving travelers. Popo is a small stand in Shinjuku’s Koreatown that specializes in hotteok, offering a bunch of different flavors. I decided to go with the default flavor. I could definitely see where the hype comes from. The sweet pancake flavor was really nice and hit the spot perfectly after a fairly savory meal at another Korean restaurant I had visited earlier. If you want a taste of Korean street food while in Japan, come check out this spot in Shinjuku Koreatown. Just make sure to go during the day.
View on GoogleIt was nice but I wish they didnt rush me and asked what I wanted. Also i wanted to ask for a choco and cheese one but noone really offered help so I couldnt really ask for one. But it was still good
View on GoogleI had it for the first time. You have to wait a bit after ordering. This time I ordered take-out, so the original deliciousness might have been halved. I heated it up in the oven after I got home and ate it, It was like okonomiyaki without any ingredients, or it was a little unsatisfying. The taste was so-so, and I thought it was a mistake to choose take-out. I think it would have been delicious if I had eaten it on the spot. Next time I have the chance, I will eat it there.
View on GoogleFirst time I saw/heard about this place was through a YouTube channel and they made it look so damn good. Andy actual first time trying it out was during the ridiculously humid summer and there I was eating this damn hot kimchi and cheese pancake. It was incredible and I didn’t care if my whole body was on fire, I still would’ve had it. But then I came back in the winter and even after a full meal, I still had room for some dessert pancakes. We opted for the honey pancake and the choco pancake. I have to admit the honey was by far the best one and no wonder it’s the most popular one! At about ¥500 for each pancake it’s not too bad, I mean it’s no conbini onigiri price but it’s great for hot and fresh food!
