Originally, I planned to visit Tokyo-daijingu Shrine and then head to the famous gyoza spot 餃子の店 おけ以, but it was closed. So I searched on Tabelog and found this place instead. At first, I only ordered a few shumai, pan-fried gyoza, and fried gyoza to try. But the shumai completely blew me away — they were soft, juicy, and packed with rich, savory flavor. Dipping them in a bit of black vinegar and chili flakes made them even better. They were so good that I ended up ordering eight more pieces! I highly recommend the original flavor and the shrimp shumai. Definitely worth a visit.

nice spot for japanese-chinese fusion! the char siu set was yummy and filling, but the veggie gyoza wasn’t very good.

A new Chinese restaurant partway up the slope in 神楽坂. I happened to be walking past on the weekend on its opening day, so I stopped in. The newly built building had a sign saying 「神楽坂飯店」, so I thought the much-missed, long-established Chinese restaurant that had closed was back. Apparently, though, this is an outlet of a Chinese-style noodle chain that has been gaining momentum lately. It seems to occupy 1F through 3F. I was taken up the outside stairs to the seating on 2F, where a fresh-faced staff member showed me into a space with several tables. The menu offered various options, from shumai and gyoza set meals to cold noodle sets. Using mobile ordering, I ordered: 【俺流焼売定食】1,000円+a drink It arrived in about 5 minutes. The set consisted of 6 shumai in a bamboo steamer, a small serving of mapo tofu, pickled napa cabbage, rice, and egg soup. The shumai were fairly large and felt substantial, but were soft enough to split easily with chopsticks. There were various condiments, including soy sauce, ponzu, and black vinegar, but I tried them plain first. Despite the soft texture, the pork still had a satisfying bite, with savory lean meat, sweet fat, and the sweetness of onions. Delicious. With 6 pieces, you might start getting tired of the same flavor, and the restaurant seems to recommend changing things up with the various condiments. The mapo tofu had moderate heat and a distinctive tangy flavor that went well with rice. The egg soup had quite a pronounced saltiness, which left an impression. Overall, although I couldn't really identify what made it specifically 俺流, it felt like good value in terms of taste, portion size, and price. There is also a good selection of small Chinese dishes to snack on, so it seems suitable for enjoying drinks in the evening too. Next time, I'd like to try the noodles.
