※We close as soon as the soup runs out. Enjoy the local specialty from Kahoku Town, Nishimurayama District, Yamagata Prefecture, passed down since the Taisho era, the famous "Cold Meat Soba" in Nishi-Shinjuku. Niku Soba-ya "Fukuro" is a meat soba specialty shop quietly located in a corner of the Nishi-Shinjuku sub-center, along Juniso-dori in Nishi-Shinjuku 5-chome. Yamagata Prefecture's famous "Cold Meat Soba" is a bowl filled with a cold soup based on chicken broth and soy sauce, topped with chewy adult chicken and chopped green onions. Unlike zaru soba, it is characterized by a deep, rich flavor. You can choose from "Soba" or "Chinese noodles" for the noodles, and "Cold" or "Hot" for the soup. You can enjoy different tastes depending on the combination...

This is Yamagata Prefecture-style noodle shop. You get choices of cold or hot soup (chicken base - I think...) with Japanese buckwheat noodles or Chinese yellow noodles. It's not a fancy place but a quick bite noddle joint. People go in, buy tickets to order, eat, and go. You could stay a bit longer during dinner time, but lunch is fast. I liked yellow noodles with cold soup, which is the basic version. You will get free rice in a bowl if the noodle doesn't fill you up.

Very friendly hostess who is great at breaking down what to do to foreigners in English! Put money in vending machine, press buttons for food, give tickets to hostess. She also gave us an English table of what the vending machine buttons meant which was helpful. Food wasn’t mind blowing but it was a good cheap eat ☺️

A spot which we found when we were on a little walk to do some washing outside of our hotel - looked good from the outside, was quite busy so we thought we should give it a go and it was delicious. They call their noodles soba noodles but seems all very similar to a ramen, I visited twice, the first time getting their classic chicken and then the second time trying the spicy red miso. I preferred the original chicken (which surprised me, as I normally like the thicker spicer soups).

I had the sansho and miso chinese noodles. It seemed a bit unimpressive at first but the more I ate the better it got. I really loved it. Most dishes are under 1000 yen and it was a very large portion.
