【The ideal curry: the sweetness and umami of vegetables and fruits】 「もうやんカレー」 opened its shop in Nishi-Shinjuku in 1997. Carefully selected aromatic vegetables are slowly roasted in large quantities over a long time using only high-quality extra virgin olive oil. Everything is brought together with our original additive-free, gluten-free, herbal-medicine-inspired aged spice blend, and it is completed after an aging period. ■Uses 3 times the usual amount of carefully selected vegetables もうやん's curry is all about the vegetables. We use 3 times the usual amount of carefully selected aromatic vegetables. The Low-Fi Comfort Edit: Cult-Favorite Curry at Moyan Shinjuku For those moments when you need a break from the high-gloss energy of Shinjuku, Moyan Curry (Shinjuku East Exit) offers the ultimate "low-fi" lifestyle reprieve. This isn’t your typical sleek bistro; it’s a tiny, soul-filled sanctuary that feels like a well-kept neighborhood secret. The Atmosphere: Manga & Chill The vibe here is refreshingly casual and "cheap and cheerful." With walls lined with manga and a cozy, intimate layout, it’s the definitive spot for a solo diner or a relaxed catch-up with friends. It’s the kind of place where you’re encouraged to sit back, browse a volume of your favorite series, and lose track of time—a rare luxury in the heart of the city. The Palate: Unexpected Zest & Creamy Textures We skipped the standard fare for two of their more "editorial" options: * The Lemon Curry: A vibrant, citrus-forward bowl that cuts through the traditional richness of Japanese curry with a bright, sophisticated acidity. * The Avocado Curry: Incredibly filling and creamy—a perfect texture-play against Moyan’s signature 2-week aged, vegetable-dense sauce. The Verdict Moyan Curry is proof that some of the best travel memories are made in the smallest spaces. It’s affordable, gluten-free friendly (a major plus!), and serves up a high-quality "hug in a bowl." If you’re looking for a hidden gem in Shinjuku that prioritizes flavor and chill over pretense, this is it. Editor’s Tip: Perfect for a "recharge" meal during a heavy shopping day in Shinjuku. The portions are generous, so come hungry.

A truly unique and incredible curry! A labour of love is required to make this curry which takes several days to mature. Delicious!

I ordered pork curry set for about ¥1000, they served the main course with pickles and potatoes. The taste is quite comforting but the portion is a little bit too small to make me full. The server not understand english too much so try google translate to read the menu. For the place is quit convenient for me to eat alone.

The place is quite small, so it might be hard to find a seat at rush hour. The personnel is super kind and doesn't speak English fluently but it's good enough to understand everything :) We arrived at 14 and we were 5, we waited about 5/10 minutes before sitting inside. I ordered the dry curry and dry sauce, ドライカレー&カレーソース (bottom left corner of the menu), medium size rice and 5° spicy level. The service was quick (~10 minute wait) and the dish was extremely good They offer self-service for some stuff like baked potatoes (up to 2 for each person) and free water They also have gluten free options (see the picture)

Small hole in the wall place. It's small. Host is great. Several different Japanese curries and you can choose the level of spice. It comes with a free side (potatoes/salad). I tried the chicken curry. They have basic things like wine and beer. It's super affordable.
