Extra old dive atmosphere with about 20 seats and a few more out front. Might go back to Showa, including the tobacco friendliness. So many of the more interesting places these days, but I sat in the back and it was okay. Lots of stuff to look and almost all of it looks like it could have a story, but especially the people. Background is just Japanese news radio. Free Tokyo Wi-Fi, which seems to be working better than usual. I'd rate the strong coffee above average and a strong four stars overall.
View on GoogleA café full of warmth and history. The lovely elderly owner is incredibly kind. Even when many people were hanging around outside smoking without making a purchase, she welcomed them with the same gentle smile. We felt a bit bad just standing there, so we stepped in to order breakfast and drinks. Wishing her business all the best!
View on GoogleWhere the Coffee’s Siphoned and Time Stands Still 👍 A cozy, retro café packed with Showa-era charm and manga, run by a sweet elderly woman, serves solid coffee and classic Japanese curry. The siphon-brewed coffee is surprisingly good, and everything is reasonably priced. It’s a nostalgic, no-frills spot worth visiting for the atmosphere as much as the food.
View on GoogleVery tasty melon ice cream soda and toast. Nice interior! Can smoke inside. Interesting and kind visitors as well. It's rare to see this kind of local spot in the busy center of Shinjuku.
View on GoogleLove the friendly elderly woman server and the rough, authentic, almost 1970s feel and smell. She sauntered over with our creamy hot chocolates and stood bent over the tray, perching it on our spare chairs, waiting adorably for us to unload them. We wish we knew her sooner. Would’ve come every day.
