ひょっとこHyottoko
“Meshidokoro Hyottoko,” in business in Kabukicho for 70 years. Thirty-five years since relocating from Yanagi-gai, it continues to serve the same “mom's home cooking” as always, as a diner that keeps the people working in Kabukicho well fed. The classic is rice cooked in a big pot, enjoyed as part of a set meal, but there are also many fans of the “nori bento,” which long ago was beloved as a dressing-room bento for the Koma Theater.

When entering the restaurant I was kindly greeted and welcomed by the two ladies. It is a very nice restaurant and they serve the best (grilled salmon) Bento I have ever had. I recommend anyone who is nearby Shinjuku to pass by and try their Bento. Also the price is very good, only 1000 Yen for a bento! It’s a local restaurant and the two ladies were not only nice to me but to everyone else entering the restaurant, even the delivery drivers.
View on GoogleGreat, simple teishoku spot, with very nice and friendly staff. ¥1,000 lunch meal set with main, two side dishes, rice and miso soup was great.

View on GoogleFantastic little join with set menus. Two lovely ladies are running it. Very heartwarming atmosphere and delicious food. I had a grilled rockfish (Akōdai)
View on GoogleThe vibes at this restaurant are very cozy and the chef/patrons were welcoming and friendly despite us not being familiar with the menu. The grilled salmon was the juiciest salmon I’ve ever had. Great, cheap and simple food options!
