I used to work near here and came to this restaurant often. Possibly one of the best udon shops in Tokyo. Make sure to try the cold beef udon (冷やし肉) (pictured) in summer and the curry udon in winter. Fully recommend. A family owned business and are all super friendly

An udon specialist just a short distance from Ushigome-Kagurazaka Station. It has a warm, family-run sort of atmosphere, with a fairly spacious interior offering counter and table seating, and is always busy with nearby office workers. The menu includes standard udon, original udon dishes, and various sets. I ordered 【とり九条ネギうどん】980円【きつね追加】200円 and it arrived after about 20 minutes. Strangely, there's often quite a wait here even when visiting just after opening. Medium-thick udon sits in clear broth, topped with chicken, Kujo green onions, asatsuki chives, kamaboko, and kitsune. The broth is a deeply flavoured flying-fish dashi, lightly salted, with a gentle umami that gradually comes through. The moderately chewy udon suits it perfectly and slips down easily. The chicken also had a pleasantly firm bite, and its fatty richness matched beautifully with the sharpness and green aroma of the crunchy Kujo green onions. The extra kitsune surprised me by being larger than expected, but it was a juicy piece with restrained sweetness. Its natural soybean sweetness went well with the broth. Adding their original spicy seasoning midway instantly brought heat and richness, keeping it enjoyable to the last bite. I'd like to try a different set too, and intend to keep visiting.

It's set a little back, so I hadn't noticed it despite passing by. We chose simple kake udon and their signature curry udon. There's a bit of a wait, perhaps because the noodles take time to boil. One bite and what a surprise—so chewy! Apparently this chewy udon is made in-house using wheat flour from Kagawa. Wow, really delicious. The owner is friendly too; I'll be back. The retro telephone is lovely as well. (Still in use)

An udon shop set slightly back inside a building along Okubo-dori. It has a bit of a hidden-away atmosphere, and the udon here is very good. I had the curry udon and was satisfied with everything, including the noodles' chewiness and the broth.
