Average overall, but MUCH too expensive for what you get. I won't be back. The oden lacks flavor. It's very basic dashi. Lacked umami, salt, any real flavor. The food feels healthy -- but that's about all it's got going for it. The main cook (owner?) didn't have a very kind disposition, fairly cold attitude. We were the only people in the restaurant, so at times like that, is it so hard to smile at your only customer?
View on GoogleCozy, casual dining restaurant at the side alley just off the main street. Excellent quality food. Extremely fresh sashimi, and the boiled dishes are all very delicious.
View on GoogleAnother Oden place at Kagurazaka Not only their signature Oden dishes, I enjoy other menu as well though they need to brash up drink menu … Still I would love to come back in winter
View on GoogleWent to Esaki Oden based on Michelin and Time Out review. Manager/chef would not Give me a reservation for 2 and let me know that there was no English menu and that no one could speak English. I was willing to get by on our very limited Japanese (and help with Google). But the manager wanted no part of us. Not the usual response in Tokyo. Very disappointing.
View on GoogleI've eaten at all kinds of places, but 『恵さき』 is the only restaurant I visited for the first time this year that made me want to give it 5 stars. Anyone who loves Japanese cooking or ryotei-style flavors should definitely go. おでん is the main attraction, but that day completely changed my understanding of おでん! Each ingredient gets its own initial seasoning and is finished in a small pot, rather than having lots of ingredients all sitting in the same pot like at a typical food stall. In other words, this seems to be a restaurant serving dishes centered on broth, with even the broth being completely original. I was especially moved when the chef explained that for the イワシのつみれ, he uses sardines fresh enough to eat as sashimi, fillets them into three sections, then works them until they're boneless and smooth 🥺 You can also enjoy hamo and wild ayu depending on the season, so I imagine it never gets boring. By the way, I went with my husband in June! For 2 people, they seem willing to divide a single dish for sharing, so it might be worth asking when they're not busy? The people I wouldn't recommend it to are those who want to eat a lot or have Japanese food in large portions. It's suited to people who want small amounts at a time or exceptional dishes showing the head chef's careful, meticulous work. That was 恵さき in 神楽坂, somewhere I'd definitely love to visit again when the season changes 😊
