I volunteered at Mickey House Cafe in Takadanababa for a couple of months, and it’s truly one-of-a-kind. Right in the heart of Tokyo, it has an incredibly unique vibe—alive, bustling, and full of energy. I made some wonderful friends and met people from all over the world, from amazing local Japanese people to travelers passing through. I even met an Oscar winner, a model casting agent, and a host from a host bar—it’s really that kind of special place. The café has been running for over 40 years, and there really isn’t anything else like it in Japan. It feels somewhere between a bar, an English café, a community center, and a lively cultural hub—all at once. They also host a fantastic Friday party, which is packed with people from every background, making it a great place to connect and socialize. On top of that, you can learn English—or any of the 20+ languages regularly taught there. I’m very grateful I got to spend time at Mickey House Café—it’s a truly unique experience that I’ll always remember. Really, what an adventure. Ive included pictures from hanging out with the staff, hiking together and many more memories.
View on GoogleGreat place to visit to practice languages or just to meet people from all over the world or Japanese locals. I learnt so much about Japanese culture that I wouldn’t have otherwise! Friday night all you can drink parties are a great deal and perfect for making friends in the city :)
View on GoogleI went here a while ago and it was not a pleasant experience. This was not so much a place for English conversation so much as it is a live English podcast. No matter how much you try, you can not join the conversation as you will be ignored by staff. It is more like someone talking at you then having actual conversation. It is weird because they want foreigners to come with incentives like free drinks but ultimately, is made for people learning English which I understand but if you are going to try to get foreigners to come you should have actual conversations. If you are Japanese or other nationality trying to learn English, this place is ok but it isn't conversation practice so much as it is listening. If you're a native English speaker, stay far far far away from this place. It is not a pleasant experience and you are better off going somewhere else. Don't waste your time.
View on GoogleA lovely place with lovely people. If you want to learn a language or want to get in contact with japanese people that is the place to go. We were there just out of interest during our stay in Tokyo and were more than positively surprised. Especially for foreigners it is a cool place as you can just go there for a coffee instead of paying for the entry :D Thank you for creating such a nice environment for cultural exchange ♥️
View on GoogleI had a really good time at mickey café. It was a very homely atmosphere and everyone was warmly welcomed. Especially the Japanese table was fun and we got along really well quickly. There are a lot of regular customers, but also new people coming every day, so it is a great place for making friends. I recommend trying it out:) You can come on your own, or with friends, and either way you'll have a good time.
